Help Embarassingly slow lag on Droid gallery.

Hello all,
New to the forum and need some help.

Having some issues with the gallery on my Moto Droid running extremely slow.
I tried to show my friends (who all have iphones) some pictures from my gallery and 1) the thumbnails take minutes to load (if. It even loads at all), and 2) when I open a picture it take between 5 and 10 seconds for the blur to go away. Very embarassing considering my friend pulls out his iphone and everything loads instantly without any lag whatsoever (and not just one friend by the way, EVERY one of my friends who have an iphone, old or new). This whole thing started when Google changed the gallery in that big update in January. The old gallery loaded everything perfect, then they updated it to this newer style and I've had literally nothing but problems. I can barely open any photos because half the damn thumbnails are blank!

I will say that yes, I have a ton of pictures in the main camera folder (about 600) but this is still unacceptable considering my friend had about 1,000 on his iphone and every thumbnail and picture loaded flawlessly every time without fail when I can't even get one to load.

Has anyone else had this problem?

P.S. If anyone's gonna reply "you have too many pictures and need to erase some so the thumbnails can load quicker" please don't bother. "Droid Does" doesn't mean "Droid Does but only if you don't have too many pictures.

I have noticed (unfortunately for you) that the more pics/videos I take, the longer the lag. Mine is nowhere near as bad as yours, but I don't think I have as many pics on my phone as you...

Just an observation though, nothing I can say to solve or fix the issue...I haven't seen it talked about much, and while it doesn't really bother me, I thought I would respond since I noticed it...

I think I figured it out.
I've read a lot about Task Killers not being necessary for Droid phones, so this weekend I tried running my Droid all weekend without using Taskiller (which I even donated for and used religiously). Haven't used Taskiller since like Friday, and my phone is running way better and smoother than it has in months. I still think a task killer can come in handy sometimes, but I'm definitely converted to the "not necessary" side of the debate!

Well froyo will come with a built in ability to kill tasks, so you won't need task killer after that. I also noticed if your connected to Picasa, it delays the gallery.

I gotta say, you are not alone. Ever since I updated to 2.2 it has been an unmitigated disaster. Opening the Gallery could take several minutes, despite the fact that I hardly have any pictures on my phone to speak of. It appears to rebuild the database of thumbnails (says 'Loading new albums and photos' despite that I haven't added or removed any) every time I launch it, even if it was just a minute or two since I last tried. I bet there's only around 30 or 40 photos on this thing, yet you'd think it was loading a terabyte of information.

Anyone have any new ideas since this post was last visited? I don't run a task killer of any kind and don't even really have many apps on this thing.

I think I may have a solution. I'm rooted and with CyanogenMod 6 I have a file manager that can "hide" folders from a media search. This means I can decide which pics show up in the gallery and which ones don't. And I can easily move files in and out of this "no media" buffer zone.

The app is simply called "file manager" and I think it may be available in the market with no root required, but I'm not sure.
