Root Non-voodoo to voodoo....making the switch?

Update:

Thanks for all the help. Mission accomplished. Wow, instantly makes a difference. Everything just seems smooth.

Running: DJ05 JT's SuperClean 0.9 1/8 Imnuts 100 Voodoo5

I was running the non-voodoo version of this before, so I am expecting similar battery life on top of the better performance.

Decided to say what the heck and try out the voodoo5 kernel. I keep flashing different kernels all the time trying out different things. Anyway sitting here at nearly 3am in the morning, and it's fairly dark in the room, then all of a sudden that voice starts talking on the phone. Kinda crazy. Could freak someone out if they didn't know it was going to happen.

Well if shes talking to you thats a great sign. Which kernel did you go with?

I decided to try the imnuts 100 undervolt. I've been messing around with regular non-voodoo undervolts and haven't seemed to have any issue with them. After reading through this thread and seeing the recommendations for the imnuts I went with that. We'll see how battery life works for me on it. I was at one point using the stupidfast 1.15ghz undervolt kernerl and really it didn't feel like the little bit of overclock made much difference.

performance on stock speed voodoo5 is more or less going to be the same as any other voodoo5 stock speed kernel...battery life seems good on it though

Before switching to VooDoo5 I was running the 1/8 Imnuts 100 nonvoodoo kernel, but then switched to the exact same kernel but of course VooDoo5 version.

Should my expectation for battery life be about the same as the nonvoodoo version? Just wondering out of curiosity as this one seems to be running my battery down slightly faster. The non-voodoo one seemed to just sit in the 70's for what seemed like forever. This one is moving down at a pretty good pace, but nothing to complain about or make me want to clear the battery stats. Then again, i have been browsing quite a bit today so the jury is still out on this one...

yeah voodoo makes no impact on battery life or it shouldnt at least

Thanks, that is what I thought.

I can't get over the difference in performance. Pretty incredible. Not a single hangup since I have switched over.

Punk Kaos said that voodoo is needed for the Froyo build he put up. Can I assume it will be necessary for most of the new stuff coming out?

Yes, if you intend to go that route. At this point if you own and SF and PK tells you 2+2=5 you better much need to nod your head and agree :p

Okay, I think I'm ready to take the plunge. One thing that isn't clear reading through the posts... the nandroid I make BEFORE flashing voodoo can be used to restore my data AFTER flashing voodoo, or should I just us Ti?

if you make the nandroid in green recovery and then flash voodoo and get red recovery...you may/may not be able to restore the the green nandroid unless you remove red recovery by flashing 11/29 nonvoodoo (to get rid of red recovery) after disabling voodoo

but once green recovery is restored it should be able to be restored

Yeah I always say green to green and red to red. So leehblanc I'd just have one of each if you perennially bounced back and forth. Otherwise if like most of us if you go red and stay red just make a new one in red

Do you guys think I'll see better battery life switching over to the 1/8 Imnuts 100 Voodoo5 kernel from the Voodoo 5 1200uv I'm using now? I love the kernel I have now, it's fast, good battery life, but I just want to know if the grass is greener. . .

Based on my experience over the last few days, I would say yes it will be better. It may not be as quick and snappy when it comes to heavy lifting, but for battery, it's better.

If you're using voodoo, yes that is correct. That is the kernel I'm running and love it.
Thanks for all your help! Been running voodoo for a week now and love the 1200uv I'm on, but I don't know if overclocking is all that important for me. Love how smooth everything is, but I'm downloading the imnuts kernel now and I'll give it a try. Battery life is, I think, my main priority. Not a big gamer or anything

Edit: just flashed to imnuts 100, so far it seems just as fast and smooth, we'll see if battery life is better than OTB 1200uv
