Verizon told me NO 2.2 EVER for FASCINATE!

This morning while speaking to Verizon about my Fascinate, I was told that GOOGLE owns the coding and WILL NOT be releasing 2.2 or higher for the Fascinate.

I hope he is wrong, but this seems unfair to buy a new phone and never get an OS update for it.

I highly doubt his comments are very untrue, most of the time their sales support or tech support even customer support are clueless.

I still think VZW will release 2.2 officially for the SF, they kinda have to. However, rest assured we have a semi-working alpha rom for froyo already http://androidforums.com/fascinate-all-things-root/256188-alpha-froyo-punk-kaos.html if you dont wanna wait for VZW

Well you could always but a custom rom on it. But it is disappointing.
Welcome to Verizon huh  I still say they will push it out but maybe not till their 4GLTE phones drop which sucks for the non rooted and is not best practices IMO but a tad bit understandable from a trying to get sales for other phones stand point. Its dirty though no doubt there

Odd how they say that Google owns the code, but Google doesn't own the who's/what of the embedding of that code into the device. Those licenses and agreements are between Google/Samsung. Verizon, for the most part, is nothing more than the carrier that says... "I want these features in the phone", or at least that what they keep telling me.

So, the relationship for 2.2 should be Google/Samsung for embedded coding into the Samsung Device and between Samsung/Verizon for carrier specific features.

That said, when I was on the phone with the yesterday or day before, Verizon stated that they don't even control the updates for the Fascinate, nor are they responsible for them. "We're just the carrier".

I fully expect 2.2, dream for 2.3, to be released after 4G gets a foothold... or slips down the slope, sometime around end of first quarter. If you see 2.2 getting loaded into other Galaxy S class phones from different carriers around you, you have a right to expect that Verizon will pick up on that bandwagon too. They may be slow about it, but they'll get there... I hope.

Verizon doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. I had a rep last night try to tell me the same. I told him source for 2.2 is open and most likely samsung sill had it hands on it and next vzw will get it. He then told me he didn't know. haha. On top of it there was a galaxy tab i was checking out and someone had rooted it. So i kinda grilled the management team there about it. Good times

google doesnt prevent anything from coming out...android is open source....any holdup would be on samsung/verizon

and please dont believe what verizon reps tell you....id believe one of the above posters more than a rep

Was just coming in here to post this. Also Samsung has said they are working on 2.2 for the US Galaxy S phones, even though we don't know when that will happen we know that they are planning to. Verizon reps are clueless for the most part.

I can say the chances of an ota 2.2 or higher are 99.99989%. Now for reasoning the device or any so called promises have nothing to do with it. It is the accessories that give me the % feeling. I don't see them winning in a class action lawsuit against customers that bought accessories that require them to release. But all of this is just opinion I have no facts to back it up, so please don't ask. ;)

He may be right seeing how samsung has released 2.3 for the nexus s. Likely he's guessing like all of us. Samsung is horribly slow. My i600 took forever just to upgrade from wm2002 to wm2003. My i770 took forever for updates too and then an update bricked it. Bummer because it was my back up world phone. No more samsung for me but I still have to support them in our office...

A vzw Rep told me that the New York Yankee Game against New England would also be available on the NFL Mobile app tonight? Lmaooooo.....Its been said many times right here in this Forum,,,Don't believe anything any Rep tells you because most of them have no clue what they're talking about. I have more faith in the weather man!

Hate to throw the Iphone in here....but this is one reason Apple does it right.....they make one phone and one phone only.....they aren't like Samsung that makes a gazillion different models for all carriers.

Samsung doesn't spend the time or resources to make each one matter and run awesome....Apple does.

Now I know Apple isn't as customizable...but everything is a trade off. I believe there basic hardware and software to be superior and Apple continually updates their software

I can't get a Verizon Iphone for a while because I'm still under contract with the existing Fascinate.....I want to love this phone...but it has been hard.....never had to dick with Iphone when I was with AT&T.

That makes no sense. It's like having a car company make ONE model car and forcing the end user to adapt to it's short comings for their individual needs. Variety is the spice of life and the more phones we have to choose from the better.

I tend to lean this way too in my thinking. However, if that one car model is good then you're set :p

The reps are not given any information, they are pretty much useless.

To play the devil's advocate (and because I work for a Verizon authorized retailer), reps don't get info any earlier than anyone else. I found out at the same time you all did that the iPhone was coming to VZW. As sad as it is, I get most of my VZ news from engadget.com, cnet.com, etc. They don't get their reps know about things until they're officially released, and by then most of you know about it, too =)
