Why hasn't this been done

This is my first post. I've had a Moto Droid since day one, and I just love it. It is without a doubt better than any phone that I've had over the years, and that includes the iPhone, BB, etc.

However, there are 2 things that I don't understand - Font size and a spell checker. It is imposiible to read the small font size in emails or text messages.

1. Why has there not been an app to either change the font size or be able to zoom in? Picasy has incorporated multi-touch for zooming, so I've to assume that its doable! Why not have the same in an email client.

2. Why is there not an email client out there that allows for spell checking? There are many such apps for the BB! I am a terrible speller.

I am not complaining, I just want to understand the limitations from a developers prospective, as I am sure these isuues will eventually be addressed.:)

I think the DROID's predictive word feature (i.e. Show suggestions) is amazing. I don't need spell-check with it. Auto-capitalization, Quick fixes, and Auto-complete are all checked on my phone as well, and I love them all!

I agree Joe. However, when the full keyboard is used, some of features that you mention are not available. I am glad to hear that you don't need a spell checker, but I am sure many business users will appreciate one.

I agree Joe. However, when the full keyboard is used, some of features that you mention are not available.

I don't know when it happened, or why. But now when I use the hardware keybd, all of those features work as well. I should mention that I also use the TalkToMe Keyboard app. I highly recommend this app for anyone who needs/wants to type while they are driving. It has a learning curve ... but once it trains YOU how to talk, it's pretty darn cool. And, I believe that it's last update is what enabled all of those features I mentioned before to the hardware keyboard.

I see that app also has another (free) add-on app that I have installed as well.

Apparently it changes your entire keyboard layout to the HTC. So now when using the onscreen keyboard you get the HTC keyboard which doesn't fit the entire length of the Droid screen. Predictive text does works well with the slide out now.

Just have to figure out if I can change the onscreen back to the Droid default without losing the predictive text on the slide-out.

just curious before i exchange to the droid (i hope this is a good idea from eris) --

can anyone assure me (as a girl) that this phone won't look awkward or be too heavy/bulky for my small hands? i dont want to be ashamed pulling it out when im out for the night in front of my friends and stuff. thats the only thing keeping me with the eris.

also - i heard of a major bug/problem with the phone itself in terms of voice. people are telling me that when you speak into it, it sounds like your in a box or your voice is distorted and sounds different. is this a problem for anyone? this would really hamper my decision.

i just need a SOLID phone that will do what i need it to do for next semester at college, and also a phone that will help me at work/business. i haven't found the eris to do this. i need more power. am i to go droid?

Nothing personal, but if you are seriously worried about what other people are going to think, you have larger issues at hand you should address before you choose a new phone.

I think the last firmware update fixed that. I have had no complaints other than occasional spotty bluetooth reception.

Droid or several others out there. Keep on doing your research.

i guess girls dont want to be at a dinner party and pull out a brick that looks like one of those phones from the early-mid 90's. ;p

Think of it as a chocolate bar instead of a brick. Girls love chocolate!!!:D You gals have the purse advantage in that department also. Go to the store check it out it is only slightly bigger than an iphone. Message some of the ladies on the forum or maybe Barbera can chime in on this one.
