Eris vs. the Droid, I have both...

We have both the Droid and the Eris in our house. Ok, wouldn't it be great to have Sense UI on the Droid? and, it would be great to have Droid's processor on the Eris. I feel like I could use the Droid as a self defense weapon if I had to because it's so darn tough and solid feeling. But the Eris is so slim and elegant. The Droid would fit right in being worn on a tool belt but the Eris deserves to be protected and admired. The real keyboard gives the Droid a real mini-laptop identity but the Eris is 100% touch screen with several downloadable virtual keyboards available. Bottom line for me? The Eris wins hands down. It's those intangibles that won me over. I have been a Moto guy since the good old StarTac days but after researching HTC, I choose the current and future promise of their technology. Sure, there will be more Android phones pouring into the market now and eventually the Eris will be old news. But, in the meantime, this little feature packed cool looking device is my choice to keep in contact with the world.

For me it comes down to battery life. Hands down all three Droids won out over the Eris. I don't care what the phone looks like or how many screens she offers me. If she can't stay powered on, she goes back.

When the 2500 mAh battery is soon available that should be a non-issue.

My wife and I also are a Droid /Eris household. But our take is different. I love the Eris form factor, especially for her. But she now finally REALLY likes the Eris now that I turns OFF Sense UI. She would watch me work the Droid and always wondered why she seemed to be constantly tripping over "something" different. In short the wife wants a Droid but is not willing to carry it around while I really appreciate the physical form of he Eris I wouldn't trade my Droid....no way no how.

Always interesting to hear how individuals take to the same attributes in different ways.

Don't forget the Incredible...I think that's the newest name floating around... PS The Desire was the initial name for the Eris I believe.

I am in the same situation. My days are almost up and I don't know what to do ... will my ERIS become old news so fast? I wouldn't mind a faster processor. That's my only complaint about the phone: the keyboard can't keep up.

also my biggest complaint.. 2 year old processor doesnt do it for me.. im getting the droid now. im done playing the waiting for the best game, its annoying and u'll never win ;p

^^ I agree with both of you. It's driving me crazy. When I first saw the ERIS come out, and I was looking at the specs, my mouth dropped because of the processor. I was just thinking: HTC, are you serious? I'd pay the extra. Anyway, I got the ERIS and like it, it just could use some speed. I'm excited for it to get rooted when I can tweak it to my liking. But I have to understand that there will always be something replacing my phone; I just wish that it could be replaced by something that doesn't have three years on it (processor).

if it was more recent news i'd jump on it, but this is from the 7th.. these days the news changes so fast ;\ who knows whats going to happen, but i need a phone! and one that doesn't cost 399.99 dollars (as is predicted for the next high end).. i mean a faster processor is cool and everything, but geez i have a computer too. i need a phone that will function, not make me broke.

You've got a problem with your phone if you're having battery issues.

My Eris easily lasts a good 2 days with moderate use. Even with near constant use it still makes it until I plug it in right before going to bed.

I was one of the ones complaining about battery issues too at first, but after a week or so of recharging/draining the battery, tweaking a few settings, and getting rid of some programs I had installed that had known battery drain issues, my battery life is perfectly fine now.

See, I shouldn't have to buy a separate battery for my phone in order to keep it running with little to no use during the day. That isn't right. I don't expect miracles, I expect function. I'm going back to Droid.

As in so many posts regarding the battery life in the Eris, there are variables. At first, like so many others, I was disillusioned about the battery life. Several weeks and charging cycles have now gotten my battery to last two days or longer with normal use (I use wi-fi when I need it, email, youtube, usually about 7-10 calls per day and mess around on the market, etc). I don't blame you a bit for wanting the Droid. I wish I could meld the two into one phone and I would be a happy guy for a very long time.

I wonder if I could install a hinge and connect the two phones together? I could have one very heavy brick of a two-headed monster Android phone! The EriDroid! I also think I'm better off watching some football for a while before I get really weird on here.
