Help Metro pcs easy wifi

Ok. So I use wifi a my main internet source of connection since I am home most of the time. Is metro easy wifi the app that allows me to use wifi? I went to about phone in settings and under usage there was metro wifi at the top and at the bottom there is wifi at about 3%. Which leads me to believe that the two are seperate. I'm trying to manage and keep unnecessary things running. Thanks.

I believe that is because you have left the gps on and metropcs easy wifi uses GPS constantly to find the nearest hotspots. I turned off the GPS and found my battery to last much longer. Try it and see what happens.

You think it is what? I turned off my gps and the metro icon still shows in the notification panel with my networks name under it. So that would lead me to believe that when using wifi that automatically starts up.

Oh sorry i thought you were concerned with battery life. Yes as long as wifi is on the program will run unless you root your phone and delete it.

Deleting that app then bars you from automatic access to over 500,000 free hotspots nationwide. it's a useful app. Boingo, yes delete. Easy wi-fi, I kept. Might need it sometime.

Okay so from what you're saying is that easy wifi is the app that allows you to use wifi? (that's the main question I'm trying to ask.) I thought using wifi would be something integrated in the phone. For example, I would not consider "contacts" or "phone" as a seperately running app that would show up as something that uses battery. I hope you get what im trying to say.

No it's not the app that allows you to use wi-fi at the house. Wireless networking is built into the Android phone OS.

Easy Wi-Fi is just the app that helps you find and gives you free access to half a million hotspots, in case you need it outside the house. I was only mentioning that aspect because someone else said you needed to root the phone to delete it. It's not "bloatware". You don't necessarily want to delete it -- in my opinion.

You can "kill" Easy Wi-Fi when not needed -- like in your house. Advanced Task Killer app is good for that sort of thing.

You can kill the app but it will eventually restart when you find a new signal or when you turn it off and on. I wouldn't worry too much about it as chazz said it is a useful app.

long as you have the metropcs app stores you can redownload easy wifi for free also boingo,loopte,mail@metro,metro411,metrobackup,metronavigator,mocospace,myextras,and vcpay,so there all safe to remove cause u can redownload them.

you can always just freeze the metro wifi with titanium backup so it doesn't start itself up every couple minutes and unfreeze it if you ever need it again.

This is exactly what I did to it. that way it is there if I want it. One big thing that bothered me is that it typically keeps about 8MB of memory consumed with its saved data. Even if you delete that data, it downloads it again in the background and will be back to the huge size within about an hour or so.

This is my personal opinion and I know it conflicts with many on here, but it all comes down to user preference which is why it's up to the individual to choose.

That's the great thing about rooting and Android itself is the ability to pick and choose your own personal preferences.

This app is one of my favorite so I would never freeze it under any circumstances. Metro's internet speed is 170k or less. This gives me "4G"-type data speeds when logged into wi-fi hotspots. I have my mail set to be checked every 5 minutes. When logged into wi-fi my emails zips to my phone. I see it working even when I'm stopped at stop lights. During that time, I see it logging into the nearest free hot spot automatically. I don't have to do a thing!

Until I get an LTE Android, this app helps me approximate that kind of network speed by connecting to a network of over 500,000 hotspots nationwide. When I got to the gym, it automatically logs into the service station wi-fi next door. Cool.

People who say they can just connect themselves really are not informed about how this app works. This gives you automatic log in rights you may not have yourself, through agreements made by the developing company.

If you only plan to use your phone at home with your own wi-fi network, yeah you might not need this app. Otherwise if you are using your Android out in the real world it's very useful.

Same here I deleted it, Its useless. I use "wifi widget" and just use the built in. It doesn't do anything but show you networks you can connect to, You can do the same thing with a widget that uses half the resources and shows you the same info.

I hate having to repeat myself but the children apparently can't read. This is not a "Metro" app, even though Metro slapped their name on it. It's done by a company that has a database of over 500,000 free wi-fi spots and more growing all the time. It can auto log you in or give you PASSWORDS you do not have. Easy Wi-Fi has agreement with some companies that are NOT free for other people. See, you cannot do this on your own.

To use Easy WiFi, you install a simple application on your device. You get:

Automated login when you're at a hotspot - no complex steps or clumsy browsers
Free access to the huge, global Easy WiFi Network
Ability to extend your coverage by adding your own hotspot accounts!
A map to find hotspot locations you can really use, classified by capability


Easy WiFi is a Service

The web service knows about all the networks: how to log into them, where they are located, how popular they are, and how well they work (or if they work at all). What I take objection to is the direction this thread is headed. Since joining this forum, I've come to expect a high level of respect and decorum here. It's one of the best at doing so and it's why I continue to post here.

Let's keep it that way so that we can all have a positive experience. We may all not have the same opinion on everything(which wouldn't be any good anyway) but there isn't a need to speak down to nor have name calling.

EVIDENCE, Where is this evidence, All you have done is copy and past information from there web site, You have gave no proof what so ever that this service offers EXCLUSIVE access to anything. Just because they say things like "Easy WiFi Network has over 500,000" does not make it true.

They don't "have" anything, They show you over 500,000 wifi networks, and automatically log you in when you get close to one of them but that's about it.

And I would love to see some "ACTUAL PROOF" that this service does anything special, Like granting you exclusive access to networks you couldn't get on to without the service.

Do you really think that these businesses are denying there costumers wi-fi access because they dont use "easy wifi" ?

Can you really tell the difference between these WIFI maps.
