Root Which (FREE) Terminal App?

***This is for my Droid 2 Global***

Here's the deal. I am now rooted but I don't really know much about it.

I wanted to root to:
1) get my wifi hotspot working
2) downclock my processor (battery life)
3) clean up unwanted crAPPS that shipped with the phone
4) I heard I can get FM radio if I rooted (somehow)

I work on computers, not phones, but it is similar and unix/linux are nothing new to me. So, I am not afraid of screwing things up... I just don't know where to begin and thought I would ask for some help from those who have been around this for a while.

I am seeking recommendation on Terminal app as well as backup app and perhaps a way to "snapshot" or take an image of everything as it is currently.

Thanks,

-lance

1. download one of the wifi tether apps from the market.
2. download set cpu from the market
3. download titanium backup from the market. I recommend the full version and using the freeze function rather than uninstalling the crapware.
4. there is a thread somewhere in this forum about that, just do a search

You will also want bootstap to do a full backup, or image, of your phone. Here is a link on a guide on how to do it. How to: Create a Full Nandroid Backup on a DROID X - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
Wherever it says DX just sub in D2. Make sure to download the bootstrap for 2, not X

I can tether... that's not an issue. I am referring to the wifi hotspot (WAP) that is built in to the phone but VZW charges $20/mo for this service to be enabled... I am guessing there is a way to modify the binaries after rooting.

Thanks,

I think you're misunderstanding because you actually know computers. What he's referring to as tethering is what you're referring to as using the hot spot. It's one of those things that slipped into the vernacular, like xerox, or kleenex. You don't need to mess around with the VZW hotspot app (unless the nerd in you just wants to?). There's dozens of free apps available on the market now that you're rooted.
