Help Is my orange San Francisco battery faulty?

Bought this phone about 2 weeks ago and at first I was amazed y the battery life for a budget handset - really had to give it some stick to even lose a few %. But the past few days have been a different story. I heard it's not good to leave your phone plugged in all night after it's fully charged, so I'd charge it to 100, kill all apps then lock the phone. When I wake up 6 hours later it's between 85 and 90, which I know is more than other people get but it still concerns me. Also, I know 3G drains the battery faster but when I turn off wifi and use my 3G, I'm losing around 1% every two minutes, is this right? Am I just being concerned for nothing? At the moment I'm only getting a few hours, there is no way I could get a normal days use with 3G even if I'm not actively using it. I've read about the batteries getting almost too hot to touch, and although it's not that extreme, the back does seem unusally warm when I wake and find it's lost battery. I don't have autosync/gps/high brightness/ apps running in the background. Does anyone have any similar experiences? Any tips to help me? Should I try a new battery or am I just being crazy? Any help would be fantastic, especially relating to 3G thing as I use this alot but just can't get enough hours use! Thanks so much everyone

If its sudenly gone down hill like that I would point the finger at some rouge app you may of installed or updated recently.

I know you mentioned you 'Kill all apps' but its still possible its something thats been installed or updated.

Try and think if theres anything youve installed or updated around the time the battery started draining quicker.

PS If your using the stock orange rom, you may get a better battery life if you switch to one of the custom roms or follow this guide to remove the pre-installed orange apps etc from the stock orange rom...

Try installing TrafficStats from the Market. That will tell you what is using your 3G/wi-fi. The most common causes of battery drain is processor being used or mobile internet being used, or both. I found Sky News and the HTC News & Weather widgets both download and store data even when they're not active on a homescreen, and TS was how I discovered it.

the battery on the san fran is pretty poor anyway some people on high usage say it will only last around 8 hours !!! and some on minimal use 15-24 hours this is a phone you would have to charge every day and if you dont want to see the battery frop dont use 3G with this phone 3G will kill the battery is a few hours.

Most smartphone batteries don't last more than a day under medium/high usage, that's just the nature of smartphones.

You can help extend your battery though by doing things like not using live wallpapers, not using wallpapers with bright colours, reduce screen brightness, turn off 3G or Wifi when not in use, etc...

Do you have a San Fran? I've had one of each (an OLED and a LCD) and both with somewhere between minimal and moderate use I would get far more than a days use.

I don't charge every day, in fact, looking at my phone now, its on 54% and has been running for 3d 16h 44m 44s since the last charge. I always have 3G enabled (I have to, I'm running it on 3UK), and wifi is always on. I use a brightness widget and run the screen at 15% when indoors and at night, and usually 75% during the day.

The battery life has been far better than the HTC Desire I used to have.

I find my Desire has the edge over my San Fran battery wise,... but theres not that much in it.

There seems to be vast differences in what people seem to get out of Desire batterys though.

Im not overly impressed with the San frans battery, but It'll easily do a full day with moderate use.

I was down to 34% tonight so have decided to charge it, I was showing 4 days, 21 hours, 15 min since last charge. I can't ever remember going 5 days on my Desire.

I'm running a Desire and a San Fran at the same time, and the san Fran has a MUCH better battery life.....

.....but that's because I use it for work so I don't have mobile internet turned on. I use wi-fi a couple of times a day to check updates, emails, etc, but in standby and for making calls I can go 2-3 days between charges.

I'm sure my Desire would last way longer than it does now, if I turned off mobile internet, but the point of having a smartphone is that I like/need my email accounts, twitter feed, facebook feed, weather updates and internet access wherever I am. I have a charger at home, on my dest at work, and in the car so I never have battery issues.

Totally agree with that, the reason for having a smartphone is to use all (or most) of the features available, otherwise you may as well use on old basic nokia with a battery that lasts all week.

I maintain though that with equal use, 3G turned on all of the time, email, weather, facebook etc updating, lots of browing the net, some Angry Birds etc, the Desire battery has a slight edge over the San Fran for me.

..maybe the san fran struggles more than the Desire with Angry Birds and thats whats draining its battery quicker
