LG Ally Update Coming January 17th?

eh I figured.

So just curious how have people Rooted the Vortex?
why cant we use the same method?

I've tried helping root the vortex. See the vortex didnt ship with 2.2.1 they recently got an ota for that. With the original firmware it shipped with (just 2.2) they were able to use z4root to root. In order for them to root they have to downgrade from 2.2.1 if there using it. Until a method is figured out for them with 2.2.1

Wow.... Got quiet all of a sudden.
I guess this is the eye of the storm.

everyone must be hard at work.

Man I hope Drellisdee gets us a one click root method.
YOU CAN DO IT MAN!!!

I got to wondering if dcrow555d could try using ROM Mgr. to flash to ClockworkMod Recovery. If that worked, then maybe he could flash back to RA Recovery and make the Nandroid he wants to make?

I think main issue with this phone is phone onboard memory. Not enough room for apps. My wife only has like 6 apps on her phone and her texts and emails started disappearing because her memory was almost full. What is the cure for this? Obviously apps need to go to the sd card, so what is best way to make his happen? Why wont Froyo include this in update knowing this is an issue?

To the best of my knowledge, Froyo 2.2 includes Apps2SD, which allows you to move your apps to your SD card. I know it worked when my son got Froyo on his Droid X back in November, so I don't see why it would not work also on the Ally once Froyo becomes widely available for it. We have at least one member who now has Froyo 2.2.1 on his Ally, having gone after it with the LG Mobile Updater. So it IS coming. Eventually. But so far no OTA for it yet. There was a flurry of activity earlier this evening when he first reported getting it, and then it quieted down. I think those with the resources to do it are working on rooting it.

Moving apps to the SD card was the reason I went down the rooted path, speaking for myself. It is SOOOOO much nicer not to keep getting low memory warnings. :) But if you aren't into rooting the phone, then you should still see this ability when you finally get Froyo.

I have the Ally and I used z4root and titanium backup and ended up deleting google talk. This has kept me from being able to download from the market since. With this update that is supposed to be coming will it work without google talk. And if so will it replace google talk?? If not.... how in the HECK can I fix this??

I believe I have read that Google Talk is one of the essential apps needed to make the phone work correctly. I know I have seen this same situation posted several times. If you look through the LG Ally All Things Rooted section for reference to Google Talk you should see some of the posts other members have made, and the help they got to remedy the situation.

The file dl is 120.18mb

Thanks! Someone else was getting an update with the LG Mobile updater and told me the file size, but he didn't know for sure 'what' he was getting. So this way I can have some idea he is getting 2.2.

So far I have seen 3-4 people saying they have it in place. Any word from your other contact lines as far as how a root for it is progressing? I'd like to try it, but I don't want to leap until I know I have an avenue of retreat if I should for some reason want to do that.

What do you think of it so far? Someone asked if it has Apps2SD, and I said I thought it did. Was I right?
