Can't base any decisions on a rumor no matter how juicy it is.

An anonymous source giving unproven details to an internet information dissemination company does not for factual reporting make.

I agree that's the rational thing to do, but Samsung isn't helping in this regard.

In a vacuum of information and honesty people will fill the gaps with their own ideas, beliefs, wants or hopes.

Samsung needs to be forthcoming about what the problem is, how they intend to fix it and give a reasonable timeframe that they are going to stick to for the upgrade path.

All it would take is one official statement from Samsung telling us whats going on (other than "coming soon")and they would keep the bad taste out of our mouths. I for one am fine with extreme testing to make sure froyo is great when we get updated but the silence is whats killing me. Throw us a bone Samsung!!!!! Put this crap to bed and move on.

You may very well hear something you don't want to hear (i.e. it's going to be another 3 months) or it may be something that doesn't make Samsung look very good (i.e. we're having real problems getting TouchWiz working with 2.2, or Our carries won't pay us for the upgrade in the US but they do in Europe), but at least it would be less deceptive than how they've handled things to this point.

The truth is better than nothing.

Samsung's generic Galaxy S page says that you can indeed update some phones (unspecified) to 2.2 via Kies, with the disclaimer that this does not apply to all phones or to all countries:

Upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo) is available via Samsung Kies*

Earlier today, the poor flack charged with maintaining Samsung's Galaxy S Twitter feed seemed to be very busy promising people not to give up hope. (Read in reverse order.)

I'm way past my intro period, and my contract's not up till October, so it looks like I'll be waiting patiently for Samsung and Sprint to deliver.

They have been tweeting that same response over and over for weeks.
