How to Root a LG Optiums GT450 (pay as you go o2)?

I have a really cool android phone, LG OPTIUMS GT450. But, there doesnt seem to be an update for it (2.1 doesnt work, 2.2 froyo isnt an option.) how do you root (jailbreak) it? Is there an app to send applications to SD card on android 1.6, i heard there isnt and you HAVE TO ROOT IT. is this wrong? I also heard you can't root on O2 PAY AS YOU GO. HELP!!!! i have so many apps i wanna download, but i can't with no phone memo. I just want to be able to install you my sd. But have android 1.6,

Useful thread. I have the same question. This phone, (I think alwaysdreamin has wrongly mentioned LG OPTIMUS GT540 as GT450) has 32GB expandable memory slot, but what is the use of that if someone can not move the apps to the micro sd card?

As you are running 1.6, It's easy to root(for 2.1, this doesn't exist)...

- open the phone dialler
- Enter the code '3845#*540#'
- Select the option 'Module Test', then 'Stability
Test' then 'Enable Root Permission'
- You will now be prompted for a password -
enter :SWIFT::GT540:
- A toast message will briefly appear saying 'OK'

You are rooted!

To move apps to SD you need 2.1 & higher... Rooting is not bad, just you have to be careful what you are doing... Who said O2 PAYG can't be rooted is wrong...

oh! You are running 1.6 & you bought from CPW, right? CPW removed that option from their ROM... Update to 2.1 & use z4root...

It does.
I'm also on O2 PAYG and i'm rooted and running 2.1
I used z4root and the LG updater.

You don't have to plug-in the USB... Just enable USB Debugging Mode, open z4root, select 'Permanent Root'

Note: It's NOT recommened... It can mess up or brick your phone & also damage your SD...

Personally I prefer to use Link2SD because it gives you more control over what is moved to the SD card.

Hi Nirob,

I too am missing the 'Enable Root Permission' option (no, this isn't a CW one - it's O2). I do not want to upgrade to 2.1 and I already tried z4root. Said I was rooted, got Superuser in the apps tray, but Titanium Backup won't operate properly (couldn't install um .. box thing, forget its name). When I checked via ConnectBot [su whoami], it says Permission Denied, which apparently means my phone isn't rooted (though it also said it couldn't load Superuser). Is there anything I can do? This is a new phone bought today by the way. I bricked my other one by messing with it too much lol.
