Having a hard time using your stock keyboard on your Archos? Try this.

The only thing I wanna know is if you can have a normal qwerty layout for portrait and the "split" layout for landscape. I'm not feeling that weird portrait setup with the letters on the left being higher than the ones on the right. I'll probably just buy it tonight when I have some time to play with it. Less than $2 it's hard to go wrong.

Buy it? I got it for free?

Edit: Eek... that wasn't the link I got this from then. Huh. Well search for a free one because I got it for free unless that was a beta or something.

I saw on the link you provided the cost $1.63 so I figured that was the price in the market as well.

I just checked the market and "Thumb Keyboard (Phone/Tablet)" is listed for $1.34 I always like lite and trial versions so you can try it before before you buy it (even more important now that the return period has changed from 24hrs to 15 minutes). I don't see a free version in the market but for a buck and some change...I'm not too worried about it.

Update. I tried the market fix on the Archos 70 and still couldn't find it. So I bought it on my Fascinate and just moved the apk to my Archos (just will be a PITA to apply updates LOL). The keyboard is AWESOME! Exactly what I've been looking for so I highly recommend it. Granted, I only have about 10 or 15 minutes of use...but everything works like it should.

You can select from several different layouts and even specify one layout for landscape and a different layout for portrait. This is how I'm currently using it.

"Standard Layout"

"Phone/Small 5" Tablet Layout" (the 7" tablet layout keys are too small for my taste)

Oh ya know, maybe that's what it is. I have a lite version. I'll have to look that up.

Cool...let me know if you can pull this up on the Android Market using your Archos.

Oops...just had a thought to check out the Apps Lib market and thumb keyboard IS listed there (I always forget to check there when I can't find an app in the Android market).

Thumb keyboard just released an awesome update for their keyboard. It now supports multitouch and the ability to have a different layout for portrait and landscape. Also their are several themes for it as well. The accuracy is much improved and now I can type twice as fast other minimal mistakes. A+ in my book.

The different layout thing isn't new but the update has been great. I'm using it on my Galaxy Tab and there are a couple of issues depending on the layout I use (7" tablet for portrait has given me some fits with pressing the g on the left side of the keyboard).
