Firmware update for Milestone?

Do anybody have any information about firmware updates for the Milestone?

All the Droid users seems to be very happy with the speedups and fixed camera in version 2.0.1.
However, I have not seen any information at all on firmware updates for the Milestone. If I use to the phone to check for updates, I just get a message saying unable to connect to server.

Does this mean Milestone users are going to be left out in the cold when the clock rolls over to a date which will cause the camera bug to re-materialise?

Thanks

Does the "Euro Milestone" have the same issues that the "US Droid" has? The update was not for adding features as much as it was for "fixing bugs". You may want to check the first 2-3 pages in the huge "Update thread" over on the Droid forum to check the software revision(s), and see if they are the same.

Well just tried my camera and it is useless.

Tried doing the 'System updates' and still get the unable to connect to server.

As I bought my phone outright from Amazon, who is responsible for putting out the update? Motorola or google??

The Milestone and Droid are (2) different phones. They most likely don't have the same firmware, so the same updates may not apply. You may want to use some of the "GOOGLE" search capabilities to determine what the software revisions are.

I was wondering just the same, and when trying to update it I also get the unable to connect to server and I'm far from happy with the indoor quality.
My camera also does a pretty noticeable noise when accessing it, and I think that it was sign on the droids of a bugged camera? I'm not sure of this. Could someone care to shed some light?

This camera bug must be the most r etarded bug of all time. I mean, how the hell did that happen! :p

To be fair, a bug like this can be a nightmare to find. What I think is more of a ballache is that Motorola obviously have a fix now (as seen on the Droid phones) and yet there is still no sign of it being pushed out in europe.

I'm guessing the delay is so they can close the hole used to root the Droid phones.

The Droid was released end of October beginning of November and the Milestone was released about a month later?

Would it not be likely that they also are able to release the Milestone fw with about 1 month delay?

I don't see the reason to delay a small update to fix the camera. The hardware is the same, so I would think the driver would be the same also.

I know there are difference between the software on the Droid and the Milestone but surely this is just at the app level, not the underlying OS.

The Droid uses different hardware for the radio part, so will have different firmware to the Milestone. I think they will want to fix the problems with 2.01 related to web browsing before they do the Milestone update, I think we'll skip 2.01 and go to 2.02 or 2.1 directly.

Personally I would rather have bad autofocus than a bad web browser on this phone...

Ok fair enough, different radio but this is Android (ie Linux) so the radio will be a kernel driver. Likewise with the camera, so I would imagine it would just be a case of rebuilding the kernel with the updated driver. Also, looking at the 'update.zip' file used to root the Droid, it would appear that it is possible to selectively update certain parts of the OS without affecting others

Personally, I would prefer to keep using Dolphin for browsing and have the autofocus fixed.
