I rooted my phone. I installed warm 2.2 and changed my theme to riptide's. Now i want to be able to hide apps in the main drawer that i dont use. How do i do that? Do i have to get launcher pro again? or is there another way of doing that?

Please let me know guys some apps are annoying to look at once u have used launcherpro and made them disappear.

You can achieve this with DXTop or you can rename the .apk fiiles in \system\apps to filename.apk.old, and then the icons don't show up in the drawer.

so with that app i would have to rename every app manually. how would i rename them? in the program itself?

No, it's an either or. Either you can use this app (which I'm not too familiar with and just read up on) or you can rename the .apk files to .apk.old and that will remove the icons from your app drawer.

You need to need a file manager app like Estrongs or Root Explorer.

You need to use a file manager that can be used as root. You're going to be modifying files in /system, so it also needs to be able to remount /system as rw. Root explorer can definitely do it (that's the point), I think Estrongs can, but I recall it being buggy, and I'm not sure about Astro. I know it didn't used, but I'm not sure if that functionality was added.

Also, keep in mind that this method is not quite the same as what Launcherpro or the like would do. The launcher method just hides the icon. It's still has the ability to run in the background, and you can even add an icon for whatever is hidden back to the desktop. By renaming the apks, you're effectively uninstalling them. What that means is, make sure whatever you remove will not break something. Hiding icons with Launcherpro is harmless. Renaming apks can break things if you're removing something you shouldn't be. You can see the list of safe apks to remove in the Rooting for Dummies guide.

On that note, another way you can do this is with the terminal emulator. It's a pain to type commands on the phone, but if you have sshd or adb set up to use as a shell, I can give you the commands that actually make this a little faster.

Damn thats too much for me. Okay ill just come out and say it then. i want to use handcent and make the message icon disappear. Other ones I dont use too want them gone as well. Just main thing is that app really.

That is an excellent example. I'm glad you said that specifically. Do not attempt to remove that apk with root explorer. Don't even attempt to freeze it with titanium backup. Handcent is more or less just an overlay. You must have messages in order for you to send/receiver text messages properly. That being said, your only option is to use a launcher that can hind the icon. Launcherpro, etc. will do this, as you already know.

Basically, are you saying you want to keep the Sense launcher? You can only use one launcher at a time. If you want to use the Sense launcher from the riptide theme, there is no way to do what you're asking. Of course, you can use launcherpro without affecting the other elements of the theme, such as the notification bar, etc. etc. Try it and see. If you don't like it, switch back to sense.

I just tried it. The notification is the same the icons still look the same but dont get the great look from riptide. this sucks there is no way i can mask the icon or change the icon and what it says?

In the app drawer? No, not with Sense. Not until somebody modifies it to do so. You can change the icon and hide text using other apps for icons on one of your screens, but not in the app drawer.

Sucks but its okay not a big deal really. just prefer it gone along with like the call history app internet can i hide that or will it conflict with dolphin browser?

You can hide anything you want with launcher pro. It's just not giving you a link to open it. It doesn't mean it's not running. Of course, as stated above, don't stop/freeze core services like this with titanium backup.
