Help me, PLEASE!!!! I think I killed it!!!

I am reposting this from the following thread, because I'm freaking out and I don't know what to do. I'm desperate!

I think I broke my phone!!

I tried the steps above, and it didn't work. I then compared it to the steps on the other link, and there it says to do mtdblock4, not mtdblock3

So I typed mtdblock4 instead, and I rebooted from the adb shell in the computer.

The boot animation went fine, and then when I got to my homescreen, I freaked out!

It is all black. Instead of the unlock button, there is a green button with an airplane symbol on it. It says NO SERVICE.

The bar IS transparent, but it has these weird symbols on it, not the normal ones.

AND, to make it worse, EVERYTHING is force closing. I'm getting messages after messages of force closing. NOTHING works.

I can't even pull down the notification bar to get mount my sdcard in order to delete the .apk file from there. All these stupid force close messages keep propping up.

Also, it says that the date is Wednesday, December 31 (the 31 is a thursday, though), and it has a time of 6 hours from now.

NOW,

I am actually still in debugging mode, and I still have access to adb shell.

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO?? I'M FREAKING OUT HERE!!!

Just reflash 2.0.1 and you should be good to go.

is there anything I can do from adb shell?

Something that will perhaps undo what I last did, or a way to delete the .apk from my sd card?

I know I haven't bricked it, because it's letting me get into the homescreen. It's just that the homescreen is royally JACKED.

Just reflash 2.0.1 and you should be good to go.

You know what? I've decided I'm not going to screw around anymore.

The baby is turned off until I get home. I'm not going to risk screwing her up any more.

Once I get home I'll access the SD card on my computer, paste my backup 2.0.1 to the SD card, put it in the phone, reboot into recovery mode, and go back to 2.0.1.

Yes, the app drawer and the gallery on 2.1 are sweet, but I don't think I'm going to root again for a while. It's not worth it!

One stupid space in the wrong place or one stupid number in a command, and your phone gets screwed!

Let this be a lesson to all you fellow newbie rooters. I'm scared off for a while.

I just hope it works when I get home, and I hope there is no lasting damage to the Droid. Freaking $500 piece of equipment and I go screwing around with it.

Please allow me to reiterate something I have said in the past. Rooting the phone is not what screwed it up. It's what YOU did after you had root access.

Haste makes BRICKS.

I don't like kicking a guy when he's down ... but you obviously did not read completely the instructions, or you did not understand thoroughly. If you are scared off, perhaps that's a valuable lesson to you and others.

Sorry to hear you are having problems but it wasnt without warning. Here is a direct quote from the tutorial you followed.....

After you reboot you will need to sign back into google. Just click on the marketplace and sign back in. Please remember you can cause serious damage to the operating system of your droid if you do not know what you are doing! I am not responsible for your actions.

Now you already know you can boot to recovery and restore your backup image so calm down and take it with stride. Good luck.

Thanks gentlemen, for that wonderful advice. Yes, I understand that ROOTING is not what caused my problems, but my stupidly too-fast eyes reading the instructions is what harmed my precious baby.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pick up my teeth that you kicked out. Do you know of any reputable dental surgeons?

She is back on 2.1, latest update (no stupid peeing droid anymore!!).

Good to hear! I am also happy to see your back on 2.1 as well. Did you see the new Greek version has a transparent grey notification bar already included? I am running it now and like it so far

I'm not a big fan of the gray color. I want crystal clear transparency. Which got me into all that trouble yesterday.
