Accessories Stock VS Extended Battery test (antidotal)

Ok, I've read a lot on extended batteries and stock batteries but I decided to do a fast battery test of my own. Don't know if this helps anyone else - and I know this is http://asrs.arc.nasa.gov/docs/rpsts/ped.pdfanecdotal. I suspect there was less traffic on the network when I was doing the extended battery.

I have an unrooted EVO with sync'ing, WiFi, 4G, Bluetooth, and most other things turned off while in my house. I don't run a task killer. (Normally I have WiFi on but for this test I turned it off.) I bought a 3500 mAh battery from the link below. I figured - what the heck - it's $9.00 bucks!

1
3500mAh Extended Battery + Cover for Sprint HTC EVO 4G - eBay (item 200556328152 end time Dec-28-10 17:31:03 PST)

This morning I got up and put an almost fully charged extended battery in it. I was at 95%. I just let it boot normally all the bloatware and stuff comes on. I went to Sprint TV and went to the full episodes on USA Network and just started playing full episodes Psych (with sound off). I get about 1.5 to 2 3G bars in my house. I kept this phone on the same table for both tests to take out the variable of better reception in various parts of the house. It took 191 minutes (3hours 11 minutes) for it to reach the 15% warning. That equates to .418848% drop per minute.

Then I swapped in the stock battery. It was 100% charged right from the wall charger. It took 162 minutes (2 hours 42 minutes) to reach that same 15% notification playing the same program over and over again. That means it equates to .524691% drop per minute.

I've had the extended battery for a couple of weeks. I think it has had enough cycles to fully charge.

Personally, I'm a bit disappointed. That is only a 20% increase. Going from a 1500 to a 3500 - I'd have thought it would be better.

The shipping was a long time (@20 days) and the seller was upfront about that. But the battery leaves a lot to be desired. I think I am back to my stock battery and my spare stock battery (don't ask).

Two other anecdotal observations. First, the stock battery test (later in the morning) actually dropped the connection a couple of times but I was paying attention. Second, the video while using the extended battery was much more smooth than the stock battery. Both of these points tend to support the assumption that there was more traffic during the stock battery test - and it was still only 20% worse.....

Hope this helps folks out there.

You get what you pay for.... I paid $65 for my Seidio 3500 and it lasts days on a single charge. Definitely at least double what I would get with the stock battery.

Attached is a screen shot I just took. 1 Day, 15 hrs, 16 min since unplugged and at 42%. I don't think that is bad at all. $65 well spent.

That extended battery wasn't good. My Studio 3500 lasts much longer than stock. Don't charge more than 3 times a week with lots of calls, 3g data, 4g data, WiFi, texting, cm radio, and all kinds of apps.

What is this brand "studio"? How much and where can I find one?
I bought one of those Chinese eBay 3500 battery but it only last about 30% more than the stock. I really need a better one that will last at least 15 full hours with 6 hours of MP3 + 2 hour movie video played with WiFI, 4G, stream Pandora for 3 hours & Auto-Sync enabled. And I do not want to use any app killers - they seem to conflict with some of my other apps like "NO LOCK". More than that, I would consider it a bonus. Would the $60+ batteries do this? Will those batteries last over 24+ hours like it says above?

What featured are turned on when it lasts this long and do you ever play MP3, stream Pandora or watch any videos on a regular basis?

I use Power Amp to listen to MP3's, maybe not every day. I do stream Slacker Radio quite a bit, but also use the caching feature on Slacker to minimize battery drain from this. Every night, I spend a good 1-2 hours surfing the web and watching videos/youtube etc.

Some features that I don't use would be facebook account sync. I think that email notifications are good enough for me, no need to constantly sync the news feed etc. I also have weather set to update every 3 hours, and my gmail syncs regularly. Otherwise, I don't have much going on in the background, most other data is on-demand.

Do you mean Seidio?

Either way it's healthier for the battery to charge it every night, as I've read many times here.

Yes. Autocorrect on my Evo changed it to studio. At any rate, I do not charge every night as it's not necessary. Based on my use which is pretty demanding, I need to charge every other day when the battery gets down to 20-30%. I then charge for about 4-5 hours total if I charge during the day or 7 hours if overnight. The charge time doesn't seem to make that much of a difference (4/5 to 7 hours), but I don't wake up at night to unplug.

I can easily get 3 days if use airplane mode of shut off features that I don't need to use (GPS, wifi, 3G, 4G), but the point of me getting the extended battery was to be able to leave them on and use them without worrying about battery.

I'm perfectly fine with every other day charging. I wish I'd gotten the Seidio 3500 extended battery sooner.

Got the Seidio 3500 from Amazon for $54. Also got the snap case ($18) because it fits with the Seidio Innovate II holster that I already owned. This setup is perfect for me. Other batteries are cheaper, but I just like Seidio performance, look, and fit with my existing stuff. The Rugged setup is overkill for me.
