xScope, a multitouch pinch zoom browser

Sanchez,

Thanks for supporting.
My work in the pipeline #1 is about handling of home pages and links. Right now it can't edit names of your favorites yet.

Wow. This thing destroys Dolphin. I just never liked Dolphin for some reason. Enjoy my $2.99. Well done.

Edit - Setting xScope as the default browser effortlessly coordinated it with the icons in the Home++ dock. This just made my night. Nice job!!

2nd edit - is there a way to edit the names of your Favorites?

pattcom,

You don't have to close the 'x' to close it. You click the active tab and it will be closed. Clicking on non-active tab brings it to be active.
Setting it as default is great!

I like the small tabs, but I'm finding it hard to close a tab by pressing on the tiny x. I find I often end up press the home or other button if the tab is the second or third tab. Could there be a "close tab" choice put in the menu button?

Wow, I am glad you like it. I was struggling if the option of setting as default should be there because it does require one more user permission. I just don't feel it is right to ask too many permissions to run an app.
Made my day!! Thanks for all your work. Bought mine a while ago and really enjoying all the updates - most of all, ability to default

Again, thanks

This will be handled in the future hopefully. Thanks
That is a good page to have, but that doesn't have my Google Bookmarks available there.
I usually access them from Google Toolbar in Firefox or in IE, so there probably needs to be some way to sync them into a browser. I think Dolphin was supposed to be able do that but I'm not sure. So far, I like everything else I see in X-scope.

Thanks droiiiiid
I spend sometime on the icon design idea you mentioned a while back ago. Tried couple of ideas tonight and it seems that I just can't get it right :(

Man do I enjoy getting updates to this browser.

Great stuff. The ability to have it as default is a must, its well worth the extra permission.

Excellent work.

There are definitely lots of confusions happening. I get used to it now and feel it is so much easier to navigate on my Droid. Only problem is small screen.
Oh... clicking on the whole tab closes it... d'oh.

That explains why some of my tabs were disappearing on me too.
One problem I have with my droid in that I often find myself double clicking things, it is forcing me to develop better brain-to-finger control the more I concentrate though.

thanks
Charles

Xscope.....
Just wanted to say I bought it yesterday. Great browser and great support!! Super fast and love the homescreen.
It even launches from the Home++ browser button on the powerstrip when you make it default!!!

Couple of things:
When I try to add a bookmark to my hotmail or yahoo inboxes....I get an FC. This happens whether I try to bookmark the sign-in page or the inbox itself. I have not had this problem with any other browser.

Keep up the good work!!!!!

The five things I like best about your browser:
1) SPEED
2) Zooming options
3) Small real estate taken by tabs
4) The tiny line showing progress of webpage loading. That's all you really need! Awesome!
5) SPEED :)

What I'd like to see.
- Graphical/layout
1) There is some space wasted in the address bar. I'd move the buttons together and give more room to the actual text of the address bar so we can see more text. However, this might make it harder for people with stubby fingers to hit the buttons accurately....but I think not.....the keys on the soft keyboard are closer together. I might even make the font a little smaller.
2) While I like the simplicity, I think some use of color or shadow for the address bar icons may not be a bad thing and it will polish the look significantly. I'm sure simplicity does not need to be sacrificed for polish.

- Functions
1) on the home page address bar where it says "home". I'd like to be able to tap that and select all text "home" to backspace and enter my address. Right now, it just places the cursor and I need to delete character by character.
2) The ONLY reason I keep Dolphin now is for Youtube download. You enable this and Dolphin is GONE!

I would rather pay for a browser/program than have it waste time/bandwidth/screen real estate with ads! (This would be for a core program that I use daily....However if its just a once or twice use program.....I'd prefer free with ads) You are going the right route.

Again....these are just my opinions.....Your job would be to figure out what you can include that would appeal to most people since you will not be able to please all. This is just my two cents.

Awesome job again!

magnus,

THANKS first.
Right now, the layout of buttons and textbox of URL is taken care by the default layout container of android. I will make them more compact by using difference layout containers.

The text in the URL is supposed to be selected all when focused first time. I will fix that. I am aware of this problem. And also the software keyboard should be gone once use touches other part of the browser.

I am thinking to make the browser eventually will be customizable so that you can choose your favorite icons for buttons.

Download function? YES, we need that. It also need a download manager with it. So quite some works there.

xScope,

PLEASE!

Please release a version of this xScope browser for the HTC Hero! The Hero does support multitouch, even though it currently runs Android 1.5. Every multitouch browser for the Hero, such as its stock and Dolphin browsers, are TOO slow in zooming. I really want a fast pinch-zoom browser, and xScope seems to be perfect for that. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

dvdqnoc,

Trust me, I am also very eager to do so. The multitouch API is NOT in the standard SDK though. I believe I can solve it as others do but I just don't have time slot to do so yet. Any helpful hint on this front will be great.

Two things kept me busy lately: one is related to download, another homepage. I will focus on compiling pre-2.0 versions once they are finished.

I just uploaded an update dealing with 'Force Close' caused by null title of a webpage. Nothing new yet except there is one more option (clear cache if you click 'Exit' in menu to close the app).
Happy New Year every one!
BTW, I was listening Neal Boortz criticizing Obama for claiming 2010 the beginning of a new decade. He said that 2011 should be the beginning since people count like 1, 2, ... not 0, 1, 2... What do you think?

I think Neal Boortz failed 2nd grade math :)

Xscope, I have another issue I have found possibly. When I surf to a site say Sigalert.com Los Angeles Traffic Map, they have an option to go to /iphone (Sigalert.com). From there I can click on maps and then curent location. It will find me through gps and show me on the map where I am and all the traffic around me. In the regular browser it works perfect, however in Xscope it does not work it just hangs and sits at the screen like it is trying to access the gps but cannot. I have the paid version btw if that matters.

Is this something I am doing wrong or maybe just not a feature that is available please let me know.

Thank you sir.

This is related to location permission. The current browser asks for two permissions now:

1. Internet communication
2. Set preferred apps.

I can add location permission too (just a line of code) if this is desirable. It is going to be the third permission.

Thanks
