Eris car mode

Does the Eris have a car mode for navigation like the droid does? I would buy a dock I think if I knew how it work first. The stood has an app called DockRunner. Is there a similar app for the Eris?

I guess I will answer this myself. I ran across a comparison of the droid to the eris. It apears that the eris does not have car mode. It doesn't have the google maps navigation like the droid. It has the google maps that you would see on a pc or a treo (my last phone). The eris that I got is only days old. But, I don't think I will trade it in fort the droid. After all, my wife has a gps and I am anoid by the bit..en betty always saying, "recalculating." Besides, maybe I can develop an app to do car mode on my eris.

If ya did a search you would find that one app, I believe it's called nav for all or something like that. It gives voice turn by turn info. I have an older seperate gps for my car and just used to using it.

For me driving and using the phone as a gps and the possibility of getting a call is not worth an accident and will stick with my seperate unit until it dies.

When the Eris gets updated to 2.0 or 2.1, it will get the car mode and turn by turn navigation in Google Maps.

This is why the Motorola Droid has this because it is running Android 2.0 while Eris runs 1.5

Thanks. I think I will check out nav. I too wonder if I will use it. I tend to stay off of the beaten path. I guess that is why the darn gps is always saying recalculating. I thought eris has 2.0 but alas, it does only have the 1.5. When is the update expected?

I would imagine that a "car mode" would be included with an Android update that would give us turn by turn.

i thought, thought, that the droid has a magnet inside it that reacts to a magnet in the car mount to put it in car mode. same as the cradle that puts it in media mode. i would say the eris is lacking this and will have to be manually put into these modes with screen inputs.

I made my own car dock and as long as it's plugged in it will not go to lock mode or screen saver. I used various nav for the eris and they don't work half of the time. I uninstalled all of them and will wait for the firmware update to get google turn by turn.

Google maps gives you a good visual step by step direction. I used google voice search to find my destination, and click on the address, it will give you and option if you want it ran with google maps or just google. Hopefully, 2.0 will be out in January.

i actually made this helmet - with this metal bar that comes out about 4 inches from the top of your head..i just use regular google maps app and i glue the back of my phone to the metal bar, sits right over your right eye..its wayyyy better than car mode!

I mean i could fabricate one for you untill the update comes out.

I agree, I used it a few times in NJ last week. Got me out of two traffic jams. Can't wait for turn by turn.

I am still going to modify the htc proprietary mic cable so it will go around the under the dash to the a pilar and up to the visor. Right now, it works well and does the job.

OK so the Eris has no car mode, but can you add more modes to the current profiles? I use profile changer and I would like to set it to beep while I am at work and then just ring after work. The only options I have now are silent, vibrate, ring and vib+ring. Can I create more? I remember I could create more profiles on my BB.
