Best Calendar App?

CESD has said that he's not releasing it on the Market, yet, in order not to be flooded with thousands of enquiries. I believe he'll only do it when he irons out most of the bugs and feel comfortable doing so (news at 11, developers not rushing to grab $$$...) You can't imagine the immaturity of many of the users out there.

If you don't feel comfortable installing the APK this way and doing some beta testing, stay away from Pimlical/A for now.

I don't believe Pimlical is in the Android market yet, it's only available via the link I posted above (click on Here Ya Go).

Lock, Pimlical is much more than just an 'upgrade to the calendar that came with my Android'. If you are unfamiliar with the product I can understand why you feel that way, however, for those of us who have complicated schedules, Datebk3/4/5/6 and now Pimlical are essential pieces of our workday, and well worth the $4.95 (right now, but that will go up). You don't want or need the features then there are plenty of cheap or free alternatives.

For the record I was refering to Caledgoo..not Pimlical. I have never used Pimlical, but maybe I will give it a try.

I did not mean to dump on Calendgoo..its a decent program, just not worth the amount they are charging for it. IMHO

I have tried several of these apps looking for a decent calendar. I found Jorte. I really like it. Has tons of widget options as well as font type and color choices. Just what I was looking for. I have only used it one day, but so far no bugs that I can see.

I needed an app which worked like Microsoft Outlook, but on my phone. When I found Touchdown to be more of a mobile Microsoft Outlook system, I was quite pleased...

A nice bonus is that color schemes are followed between Outlook and Touchdown's calendar. I color code all of my calendared items to differentiate between travel time, prep time, meetings, placeholders, and unscheduled tasks. Touchdown nicely mirrors this color system, although in different colors...

The only drawback, albeit slight, is the $20 price tag.

$20? No problem. It may save what little hair I have left after days of researching trying find a darn program that could do what outlook does for me on my desktop, and on my old palmpilots.

I'm a new HTC Incredible user and old palm user, and did not anticipate this being so difficult. I find it odd that I was reading separate threads for task lists, calendars, contacts, email, etc. Instead of their being integrated productivity suites for the androids. I get that outlook is bland and boring as all get-out but I don't need flashy, I just need an easy to use intuitive, productive, basic set of contact/task/calendar/email set-up. And I realize some of my frustration is just being new to this platform.

So Touchdown syncs locally with my desktop Outlook program and presents a non google based calendar on the smartphone?

I just got an Incredible and Outlook 2k3 syncs with it just fine, but the reminder isn't loud or long enough. Is there way to fix that (I've already cranked up the volume in the settings)?

I have a pretty hectic schedule and really rely on the reminders, so is there a better/louder calendar? It'd be nice if it just synced with outlook, but I'm willing to sync outlook to google calendar if it means I'll actually hear my reminders. Also I really need to be able to schedule things to occur every 2 weeks. I hope that isn't too much to ask.

,Sadly, no. It only syncs via an exchange server. Youd need to sign up for a service like that for $ 6 or more per month. I was ready to do that, but I decided to try the touchdown 30 day trial first, using it without sync.it was buggy in that mode and the developer told me that was as expected without syncing. That gave me cold feet. So I Got my phone explorer to sync the android calendar directly to outlook. See syncdroid.net for a great list of options.

For the record, I ended up not using outlook much anymore and switching to mostly using google calendar from my computer.

Found "Talking Calendar" on verizon's website (or www.pwnwithyourphone.com). It's an add0on to the existing calendar and it gets the job done. It's a little annoying, but you'll hear your notifications for sure.

Hi all, my needs seem slightly different from most of you. I don't necessarily need a very powerful front end to manage my GCal, I just need GCal to work correctly.

Am I the only one who's experiencing weird things like events repeating on the wrong days or certain events being listed at the wrong time on my droid even though they're listed at the right time on my PC? Also, the fact that Google wants me to rsvp to events that I create myself is perplexing. If anyone has any explanations for this stuff I'd be sooo thankful, as it looks like I'm pretty much stuck using GCal.

Thanks. I really wish there were better options for outlook integration as most that I have contact with in the business world use it exclusively enterprise wide. Being able to interact with these folks on a common platform is very desirable.

I tried one of the calendars that use the google calendar as the backbone, and have used google calendar itself, but these have reliability issues as well. Not to mention I'd really like an integrated suite of productivity tools designed to work together. I know it's fashionable to bash the mundane outlook and related suite products, but it works pretty darn well for business.

In a desperate attempt to get my contacts and calendar events over to my Inc I used 'myphone explorer' last night. I made certain I had the right options selected but it transferred some of the appointments to the wrong day, didn't transfer any of my email only contacts, and changed the name sequence on some contacts. I made a print out of the contacts and calendar off my desktop outlook and am manually going through each one on the phone and checking it. I just don't trust this system.

I simply cannot miss appointments or have screwed up contacts in my line of work (suspect that's the same for many people), and I can't have a management system that I can't trust.

It's frustrating as heck because I really like the Inc and several things about the Android OS, but I need the device to do the business basics first and foremost.

Sorry about that, just venting I guess.

Is there a complete non-outlook productivity suite that works on the desktop and the Inc (looks and functions the same) that will sync reliably, preferably with a local only sync option?

I'm looking into purchasing my first Droid. I've been a semi-long-time Palm user.

As Andy says (above me), the way Palm works is pretty efficient -- one app, with everything integrated, and a desktop client. You manually synch to get the info to the phone (which becomes like a far-more-functional giant flashdrive).

I understand if I use the default calendar info that there is no manual synching - it's all done instantly. However, if I were to use a 3rd party app, how would that work? Is there the option for manual synching for those types of apps?

Sorry for the newbie-like question; it's the biggest learning curve/change I have to make to my understanding of the Droid (and, apparently, other smartphones).

my friend is going android and i was going to suggest her to use myphoneexplorer... makes me wonder if it's a good idea...

have you raised the issue at her forum and if you've got any response?

@CJPalermo21: Most of the solutions work by syncing with Google Calendar, which in turn syncs with Android Calendar.

For local sync, check out Home | syncdroid.net - because Androids need a good Outlook sync

I have been using CalendarGoo for a few weeks and quite like it, but there is no way it is worth $6.

Are you serious?? If you like the product, $6 is nothing! That's the price of a sandwich.

I've been using Touch Calendar Beta and I LOVE IT! You view the calendar like Google Maps. Pinch to zoom in and out. It's free, everyone should try it.

The android app Calendar Pad has been upgraded, and it has also fixed the "weird silver line" on N1.

The developers has also released a "pro" version, with color customization and Calendar settings. Not sure whether I'll by it or not, but even without the Pro the upgrade seems to be great.

The app also now has a replacement for the standard day view that you can choose to use or not: the whole day fits on one screen, with blocks from 00-06, 06-09, 09-12, 12-15, 15-18, and 18-24. Events are shown as vertical lines along the left side, labeled with start and end times; all-day events appear at the top on the right side. It's a much more useful organization than the native view that has one-hour blocks and requires scrolling to see the whole day.

For those that don't like enterting dates and times into the calender, I use GVENT.

It's not an android app, but a google calender tool. I add my cell number to my google calender.

Then i can simply send a text to GVENT(48368) with the appointment and it figures out the date.

I just hit the mic on my keyboard and say, "Meeting next thursday 8am with john". Gvent will figure out what the date is, add to my calender and send me a confirming text.

I use it every day.

The 2.1 Pimlical came out one week too late for me. I bought Calengoo last week when the beta version expired and I don't want to mess around with my calendars anymore.

Just for comparison sake, $6 for calengoo or $5 for pimlical/A is very reasonable. I think I paid about $15 for Datebk5 10 years ago and Datebk6 is still selling for $27 now.

The only thing I would note is that I am glad I had a chance to fully test out Calengoo beta before buying. Currently, you cannot test out Calengoo or Pimlical before buying it. I have suggested to the Calengoo developer to come up with some limited version (eg allow full features but blank out certain days of the week) to give new users a chance to try before buy. Datebk used to allow a 30 day free trial before you had to buy.

If your company used Exchange, then synching your Outlook calendar and contacts should be easy. Worse case scenerio you have to pay the $20 for Touchdown Exchange.

I use my google calendar for personal events and Exchange for business events. Both synch just fine and I display all the events on one calendar widget - Android Agenda Widget.

Not only this, but I use Sage ACT to track my business clients and calendar. I have it set up to automatically sync with Outlook on my work computer every 10 minutes. Every client, meeting, and To-Do is synced with the Exchange server and therefore automatically updated on my Android calendar.

All this works great and I have zero issues. I do use Touchdown Exchange to sync since I got it for free from Motorola prior to the 2.2 update. Perhaps this is what is really making it all work correctly (vs just using the stock Corporate Sync program). But I don't have any issues and it is a relatively complex system of multiple programs syncing with one another.

Not to be obnoxious, but seriously? No one else has experienced these things? I've googled and can't find anything related to the problems I'm having but it's hard for me to believe that I'm the only person Google Calendar is screwing with. I switched to Business Calendar Beta but still experiencing the same things.

Just about daily I check my calendar and see that google has duplicated an event, repeated an event on the wrong day, stopped repeating an event, etc. It's driving me crazy!

I feel like the likelihood of getting a response from Google is pretty low, so I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do.

I experienced some problems like that. Some seemed to be particular to particular calendars, but most of those calendars were lousy in other ways too, so I never bothered to try to troubleshoot in detail. I'm now using calengoo, syncing directly, not through the android calendar, and I'm having zero problems even with a complex calendar with different kinds of repeats etc. One of the good things about Calengoo is that there is a developer you can ask if you have problems, and he is very helpful and responsive.
