You can adjust the alpha transparency of the background. Open up BW from the app drawer. go to home settings. the setting will be near the bottom.

You might could try using the Beautiful Smaller Home Weather widget from the BW widget choices.

After posting that I realized I could just add a bunch of rows to LP and resize the widget

the clock looks like the new hi res honeycomb clock in the Beautiful
Widgets new update....
They added a CRAPLOAD of options to the widgets in the newest update. I think they added so much that android central had a post detailing everything
