Swype is the app that you never have take your finger off the onscreen keyboard. It is great for typing a quick text message. It takes a second to learn, but once you do, texting will be so much faster.

If you don't know where it is, it is the "S" symbol with the finger on the lower left corner of the on screen keyboard

swype is great while driving lol ....... ive been using it on my last 4 devices (evo had no choice) when i didnt want to or couldnt use keyboard .. it learns your words that u long type & u can also erase words u will never use but that come up as options when the exact one dont come out . def a great thing to have

it has option for accuracy or speed to help as you adjust to it. also, i find it quite forgiving even when i go past the letter or go to the wrong letter during the spelling of the word. i think the more you use it the more it learn your fav words.

remember, if it's a word it doesn't have in it's dictionary, punch it out and end it with a space, then it will add it and ready for that word the next time you swype it.

What's funny is that I've forgotten about setting this up for myself since I was on the drink, and I've found myself addressed with the ability and have used it tons of times since last night and MY DAMN FAKE-GOD is it natural. It's supremely user friendly.

edit: what the ****? I need to stop drinking and forum-ing...

Anyway, yeah it works great. I'm in love. Only annoying part is that you have to "teach" it, but I understand why it's necessary. Just annoying to forget, swype in a web address, and have it ask me if I really meant something else.

I think Swype would be easier to use if you could see through your finger - that's a hardware enhancement I hope Samsung is working on. It sounds preposterous, but if the phone screen emitted a certain type and level of x-ray, and the key markings were coated with a certain kind of radioactive material, you could effectively see through your finger, and I think it would make Swype more instantly usuable.

When I first got the phone I tried to go through the tutorial but it didn't interest me enough to make it to the end or even give it a shot. Then on New Years Eve I was a little tipsy while texting and accidently didnt take my finger off the screen. It worked perfectly and its the only way I text now. haha All on accident. It takes a couple minutes to get used to but really is quite useful once you get going. Much better for me than just the plain virtual keyboard. I don't like the physical keyboard either I only use it when I'm browsing the web or watching a movie on it (gives me something besides the screen to hold on to). To the gentleman that said it sucks and then asked why anyone would buy this phone if you didn't want the keyboard. That answer is pretty simple, because as far as I'm concerned the epic is still the best phone on sprint. I was leery about buying another slider because I came from the pre (oreo effect was terrible) and I'm not a big fan of moving parts

Swype is excellent but I use my hardware keyboard more and, even with Swype disabled, I still missed keys.

Once I uninstalled swype (must be rooted), my keyboard is working flawlessly. No more missing keys when typing fast.

Interesting. Did you post this in the other thread where people reported hard keyboard issues? In case some might want to go your way.

Been so many posts about it, I'm not sure where I've posted at this point. heh. If you see the topic come up, feel free to relay the "someone I know removed Swype and it seems to fix the problem" message if you like.

Swype is great! I started using shapewriter on my Hero, then when swype open the beta I switched it it. I have been using swype or a similar app for almost a year and wouldn't have it any other way. My wife insisted on getting a moment (a year ago) because it had a physical keyboard. Then I introduced her to swype. she hasn't used the physical keyboard since then and doesn't care if her next phone has one or not. I got the Epic purely because of the SAMOLED screen. If it was keyboard-less (like the rest of the Galaxy S lineup) I still would gotten it.

For the naysayers out there. Give Swype an honest try.. use it for a week. if you don't like it, then fine. I bet you'll end up liking it more than you thought.
