To all who have or have used the N1

honestly I think the battery life is terrible.
Wow! We finally get a little insider info from harsaphes! Hope your your friend isn't too upset with you for breaking your silence. ;)

Specs show it uses a 1400 mAH battery, which isn't anything special.
Some people speculated that the AMOLED screen would be more efficient than a PM LED, however we've also heard how vibrant the colors are. Couple this with all the cool animations and the 1GHz cpu and it doesn't surprise me that battery life is in the dumper. Hopefully the contacts on the bottom of the phone supports a charger as rumored, this would make it somewhat more convenient for charging.

The AMOLED uses much less energy and has vibrant colours. With AMOLED you can have both.

I don't think those animated backgrounds were supposed to be permanent backgrounds. They were just there to make the phone appear more beautiful to those who had it for a few moments (ie reviewers). Setting a black background would conserve the most energy.

The animated backgrounds are part of the phone....there is a choice of "live" wallpaper or regular.
My Iphone and the Mytouch both have better battery life. Though this could be my unit.
Also ringer volume, for me, is way to low and causes me to miss almost all phone calls and or alert messages unless I am in a quiet room. I have "tested" this with friends and all agree the volume is on the low side.

This may be related to the battery life, but I notice that after just a little bit of use, like the battery still has 65% or so, the screen will intermittently dim and then brighten. It bugs me.

Also I will always be a fan of the external keyboard! Anyone know if there are plans to make the N1 with one?

I have always been a fan of the external kb, too. When I heard the "Google Phone" (before it had a public name) was strictly virtual, I tried an experiment on my G1. I stopped using the real kb and only have been using the virtual one for over a week, now. To my surprise, I don't miss the external one. I find that the virtual one is fine once you get used to it, and if I'm typing something long, I turn it on its side and the keys are bigger so I can type a bit faster.

I can live without the real kb to get the advantages of the N1.
