Best Calendar App?

Thought I'd check in again. I'm using beta of Pocket Informant, also sprung for PimlicalA after reading raves about it (no free trial available, wasn't even in Market, had to buy from website). I'm not in love with either of them; PI is nowhere as flexible as it was for PocketPC (it is in beta), with inability to create certain kinds of repeating appointments (say, 3rd Wednesday of each month). PimlicalA is a bit of a puzzle to me; not much documentation, took a while to figure out how to generate a task (and I'm still not sure I'm doing it completely correctly). I dropped Jorte; may redownload it, it was pretty good. (am having space problems on my Droid...10% internal memory, 30% memory card left. Anyone know what is too little to leave?)

calengoo can definitely do third Wednesday of each month. For a while I thought that two betas--calengoo and PI --were running neck and neck,but it seemed to me that calengoo pulled ahead...partly because it runs much faster with my many years of many events loaded, where is that really bogged down PI.

Finally somebody made event input simple. I hate the keyboard on my phone. ClickCal actually allows you to snap a photo with your phone and use it as an event. Pretty simple. Lacks an agenda view though. But it's a free app.

Because I have had Calengoo set up working the way I want, I have not needed to go into my settings for several weeks. In the meantime, there have been 3 or 4 updates. Yesterday, I checked out some of the new features. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the tasks (which sync with google) can now be set up with a due date and the task will show up on the calendar. If the due date is past and you do not check off the task, it will automatically move to the current date. For those of you familiar with Datebk, this is similar to "floating events". This is a very very nice feature to have and probably the only reason I would still consider switching to Pimlical. I have been very impressed with how the calengoo developer keeps improving the app after the beta (not just fixing bugs, but adding substantial features).

I have not tested Pimlical/A because initially it was only available for 2.1 and I have since adopted calengoo. I think that pimlical/A is still really in the testing stage and is not yet on the Android market. At this point it is really only marketed to the long time Datebk and Pimlical/desktop users who have switched to android. Judging by his other products, I would not be surprised if CESD will eventually come out with a 100 page manual for Pimlical/A.

PS. I finally ran out of internal phone memory today. It just snuck up on me. I did not notice any performance loss. When I tried to update one of the games, the phone advised that I had run out of room. I just deleted some of the unnecessary apps to create some breathing room.

Yes. unfortunately it wouldn't even run for me...force close on startup. That's a Droid X. Maybe it works on other phones?

I've found that so far, Jorte does most of what i want, as i hate the "once it's there, you can't delete it" mess of the stock calendar. However, i somehow missed that i can't add repeating events (like birthdays) to Jorte. There's no way that i want to deal with re-importing the stock calendar, since that would replace all the extraneous junk that i don't want on there. And yeah, i tried the others that have been mentioned here, but i might have to try them again even though there were things i found lacking in each. It would be nice to have something with the basic functions to add repeating events and delete unneeded ones.

You can create repeating events in Jorte. Tap on a day to create a new event. Then either scroll down the top part of the new event dialog, or dismiss the keyboard. When you scroll down, you will see fields for Calendar, Repetition and Reminders.
The options for repetition are Daily, Weekly, Monthly (by day or by date) and Yearly. One thing people miss is the ability to put in bi-weekly repeating events.

I've been using Touch Calendar Beta and I LOVE IT! You view the calendar like Google Maps. Pinch to zoom in and out. It's free, everyone should try it.

And not being able to enter a reminder period of my choice sucks too - 1, 2, 3 and 12 hours & 1, 2 and 7 days are not sufficient (and why did they think that "24 hours" was better terminology than "1 day"?). There are plenty of times I want a reminder of 6 hours, 3 days or 15 minutes.

Are there any apps/widgets that address those two annoyances?

Sure: Calendar Snooze. I use it every days because of great reminder-snooze capabilities.

I have been searching for a way to get my evo calender to have a longer reminder of 1 week or 2 weeks for events. Are there any apps out on the market that will allow me to simply set a reminder to 1-99 Min, Hours or Days before an event, like I was able to on my palm Treo? I find it hard to believe that a simply feature like setting a customizable reminders has not found its way to the android market for the HTC EVO. I don't know if it is the phone that is limited But this SUX.

I have read about the snooze apps, but if I want to schedule an event and have a reminder set to remind me 45 days before, then once that day comes, change it to 30 days, 15 days leading up to the event, I don't see how a snooze feature can help me.. Outside of setting up multiple events 45, 30 and 15 days out how, is there an app that I can accomplish setting reminders that is customizable?

y2kindyz, calengoo allows you to set up multiple reminders for a single event and you can use 0 - 999 minutes, hours or days.

That only shows up (both to add and to see) if i change the calendar to Google Calendar, and i'd really rather not have to use that or synch every time. I guess i'll try emailing the developer to see if it's possible to make that an option. Thanks, though.

Not to be obnoxious, but seriously? No one else has experienced these things? I've googled and can't find anything related to the problems I'm having but it's hard for me to believe that I'm the only person Google Calendar is screwing with. I switched to Business Calendar Beta but still experiencing the same things.

Just about daily I check my calendar and see that google has duplicated an event, repeated an event on the wrong day, stopped repeating an event, etc. It's driving me crazy!

I feel like the likelihood of getting a response from Google is pretty low, so I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do.

In all honesty your phone or sync settings probably just have issues. Do a factory reset and try again. What phone are you using? Are you rooted?

AnCal is Calendar application for Android-powered phones.

Calendar software is often called Personal Information Manager (PIM). AnCal as a PIM software, helps individuals to keep organized everyday.

AnCal stores yours appointments, tasks and notes, which you can easily add and edit. You can also set alarms for selected items and see day, week and month reports of your appointments.

I remember this, it's the pioneer of alternative calendar program on Android. However, AFAIK, the author didn't update it for some time and at last released the source codes (ancal - Project Hosting on Google Code), which hasn't yet garnered much activity/support thus far.

And it doesn't use the built-in database.

Not yet. I'm using Pure Calendar Widget, it works well. I don't use it to do anything, however, just to look. I've got the widget and the Pimlical icon set on the same screen, so I can view my week and click on the icon if I want to change anything.

I expect Business Calendar and Pocket Informant will become paid apps once they got past the Beta period, and that CESD will raise the price of Pimlical when it hits the Market.

I ended up going with companion link. So far, it seems to accurately sync my outlooks contacts, tasks, calendar, and notes. Works local only, on the exchange, or on the cloud, usb or wifi.

Cost $40 but I didn't know what else to do as I need this phone to work in the business world. The phone is an entertainment powerhouse but I need to do business first and foremost, and everybody I work with uses the msoutlook integrated PIM platforms.

The graphics on companionlink are very basic and mundane compared to some of the other calendar overlay options that link with the google calendar, but I need practical and efficient before flashy. The layout of the companionlink calendar and contacts screens is more intuitive than the stock HTC program.

I did have a tech support question when I was on the trial period and emailed the contact addy on their website on a Sunday morning, expecting a reply the next business day. I got a reply with the information I needed a couple of hours later that Sunday afternoon.

Thanks. I really wish there were better options for outlook integration as most that I have contact with in the business world use it exclusively enterprise wide. Being able to interact with these folks on a common platform is very desirable.

I tried one of the calendars that use the google calendar as the backbone, and have used google calendar itself, but these have reliability issues as well. Not to mention I'd really like an integrated suite of productivity tools designed to work together. I know it's fashionable to bash the mundane outlook and related suite products, but it works pretty darn well for business.

In a desperate attempt to get my contacts and calendar events over to my Inc I used 'myphone explorer' last night. I made certain I had the right options selected but it transferred some of the appointments to the wrong day, didn't transfer any of my email only contacts, and changed the name sequence on some contacts. I made a print out of the contacts and calendar off my desktop outlook and am manually going through each one on the phone and checking it. I just don't trust this system.

I simply cannot miss appointments or have screwed up contacts in my line of work (suspect that's the same for many people), and I can't have a management system that I can't trust.

It's frustrating as heck because I really like the Inc and several things about the Android OS, but I need the device to do the business basics first and foremost.

Sorry about that, just venting I guess.

Is there a complete non-outlook productivity suite that works on the desktop and the Inc (looks and functions the same) that will sync reliably, preferably with a local only sync option?

This way, I could have all my appointments (personal & corporate) in one place and I could be able to view them through the standard stock android calendar.

All of the solutions mentioned here do either 1) retrieve calendar events from MS Exchange (Touchdown), or 2) use Outlook to port corporate events to Gmail (Companionlink). I want what 1) does but with the additional step of syncing the events with google calendar.

I cannot use 2) and install any computer software like Companionlink or MyPhoneExplorer in my company laptop due to security descriptions. Plus, an over-the-air solution like the one I mentioned above would also keep me up-to-date when away from office.

I know that I could buy Touchdown and then buy another android app that has the ability to view combined calendars (Exchange & gmail), like Pure Grid, but this solution would be an overkill for my initial purpose.

Why don't you just add an exchange account? The stock Froyo exchange support will show your calendar.

Thanks for the reply and good morning. I don't have Froyo in my devices yet (Zte Blade, Xperia x10), if I did would Froyo provide a calendar widget that would incorporate both Exchange and google Calendar? Just as it happens in HTC Desire?

My goal is to have ONE Calendar displaying events from ALL sources.
