Larger caller ID pictures?

I felt that the storm and storm 2 were lacking in this department also. We have such a fantastic, high quality screen. I would love to see a full screen caller ID picture when someone calls, not the tiny square. Maybe there is a fix for this but I don't know about it yet.

Any help?

Does anyone at Google send or receive calls on their Android devices? You think they'd notice something like this on their Nexus One devices.

I'm almost embarrassed to show anyone how my Droid makes or receives calls because of the pixelated contact photos.

And isn't it weird that the default Android robot contact pic is nice and crisp? Or is that because it's a drawing and resizes well?

Are contact photos sharper on older devices like the G1?

Hmm ... Hopefully someone at Google jumps on this soon.

I could understand the resizing thing if it were just the fb pics that weren't coming in properly. But even pictures I snapped WITH THE PHONE are all blurry.....WTF!?

My pictures are all on my google contacts and hosted online, and they look fine to me. Small, sure... but fine.

No, but I can understand the OP's frustration, on the iphone they took up the whole screen, and it does look nice. I'd rather have a phone that can make calls than have one with larger pictures that cant though, but I do understand his point.

Well, maybe not "freaking high def", but at least something comparable to what other top of the line phones currently offer. Droid is being marketed as somewhat of a super-beast-everything gadget and implies some heavy expectations, so when even the minimal expectations of at least being as good as other phones on the market aren't met in one feature or another, some people will question whatever issues they may be experiencing.

It's funny how you get the occasional excuses or comments along the lines of, "well, it's just a phone, what do you expect?"...

Well it kinda is kinda just a phone and it still has the caller ID feature. I'm not arguing that this feature wouldn't be nice to have, but its kind of getting blown out of proportion. To say that "the gadget's advertising implies some heavy expectations, so when even the minimal expectations of at least being as good as other phones on the market aren't met in one feature or another" is a bit of an overstatement.

It is not exactly fair to potential new owners on the boards to insinuate that the Droid is "not as good" as top phones on the market because the caller ID isn't full screen. To each his own on what features are important to whom, but I'd think twice before making a such a convinced statement regarding the phone's worthiness as a top smartphone, simply for lacking a menial feature.

Nobody said this phone sucks because the pictures aren't big enough. It started with one person asking if there was a way to make them bigger and higher quality. Not sure where you are reading that anybody said they'd recommend not buying the phone because of it.

Questioning and pointing out the flaws in the device are what get those flaws fixed, and this is a silly flaw that really should have been fixed a while ago. Much fuss has been made about the screen that this thing has, you'd think that the producers of the phone would make sure everything they have control over that comes up on that screen would be beautiful, and when it comes to the caller ID, that most definately is not the case.

Ok, I see what you're getting at. You have to shrink the pic when you choose it as a contact photo. That does suck, I agree.

BUT, it's hard to see the pixelation on it, unless you get someone's picture on it.

My pixelation on the call icon is fine.

Hmm. I'm not sure what to tell you. Mine is not 100% clear, the closer I look at it, but it's nowhere near as pixelated as yours is.

I'm rooted and running 2.1, though. Maybe that software improved the pixelation? I don't know.

BTW, you look like your drawing. Pretty good skills, lol.

I would like larger pictures too. It's not essential, but it would be nice. There's a lot of screen real estate on the dialer there that's not being used. I wonder why they chose to do that.

Yeah, I'm not sure I want the picture to be larger, just not as lo-res.

Guess we'll have to wait and see if 2.1 helps out.

I did a web-search regarding this issue and after reading a few posts here and there, it seems that the problem is a Google Contacts issue.

Photos are cropped and resized so that they look good on gmail contacts.

Because the photos in the contacts are small, that's how they're coming over onto the phone.

I hope this issue gets solved soon.

I also PM'd a Nexus One user on the N1 forums to see if 2.1 helped at all.
