Should I jump ship?

Hellooo... So I got the Behold 2 in the mail about four days ago, and it was working out pretty well for me. This was mostly because I'd previously been using an archaic piece of crap and hadn't had any experience with Android, so I was pretty blown away by the customization and yada yada yada. Touchwiz didn't even bother me because I've never seen Android without that UI. Then the battery issues started, which a few other people have obviously had judging by the threads on this forum. I was losing roughly 1% of battery power every 5 minutes without me even touching it, which is absolutely ridiculous. I followed the basic procedure and turned everything off, etc., and am recharging it now. So, waiting to see if it gets any better. But it seems like a hassle to have to constantly keep wifi disabled or to take all the widgets off the home screen. It's really annoying.

But anyway! My point is, should I jump ship? Like I said, I only just got this phone so the window of return is still wide open. I would particularly like the opinion of those who have had experience with the other Android phones. I've read a lot of reviews that place the MyTouch way above the Behold 2. Yeah yeah, I get that the Behold is gimmicky with the cube thing and obnoxious with the touchwiz, but are the other Androids offered by Tmo seriously any better? At least the touchwiz can be fixed with market apps and it's going to get the update to 2.0 eventually.

I've heard a lot of people say to just wait for the Nexus One to come out in January, but my parents have control of the account and I forced them to renew their contract just to get this phone, so I don't know how I could convince them to just let me wait for a phone that has a sketchy release date and price. Gahhhh. I would just like some advice =___=

Thank you in advance.

If you read the thread on "battery" problems, some have gotten the battery replaced if they complained enough to Tmo. I say "battery" problem because I'm in their group of serial numbers but besides the immediate 5% drop(which I just think is a firmware issue) my battery life is great.

So if the battery is the only issue, which I would call rather small, then I'd say stick with the phone. I know I am. Though yes I am dying while I wait for the update.

milky,

i sound like a broken record, on battery life, but i know for a fact the Weather programs suck your battery dry if you dont set them up correctly.

If you have weather bug i can help you on the non-battery killer set up.
for any other weather apps, someone will be able to help you also.

I also set my twitter to not update, i just refresh when i open the app.

I understand everyone's tinkering and what not but we shouldn't have to come down a notch and adjust to the phone. The phone needs to adjust to our needs. The whole point of the experience is to have a state of the art gadget that provides us with every comfort and luxury that we request. I like running my weather widget and having all my apps & shortcuts set up on the desktop. Why should I have to adjust my style due to the fact that either Samsung or Android can't get it right.

So frustrating

I agree with you totally,
maybe thats why the iPhone sells like crazy, its simple, simple to use, idiot proof and the only issue is dealing with ATT service and coverage. (if ATT worked as good as tmobile where i am at guess wich phone i would have)

I turned off wireless location and gps permanently (unless I am using maps) and use a simple weather widget with my zip code instead of it looking at where I am. I also have an rss widget (greed) Facebook, calender, sms count. I get through my day just fine with all this on. You need to turn wifi on only when you need it. Don't keep it on unless your connected with it. This is not a Behold 2 issue this is how all android phones and Iphones work. That is why there is so many widgets out to make it easy to turn off these features. I don't know why Wireless location sucks down so much battery on the Behold 2 over the G1 but keep it off until 2.0 comes out. Power Manager is a great app and setting it to turn off wifi after you unplug the phone from the charger and also turning off sync when I get below 20% battery saves lots of aggravation. I know it sucks to compromise but this is an infant market and until more time is spent on technology we just have to suffer.

Iphone has battery issues as well. It's impossible to go 10 hours with descent use without a recharge.

I currently have the Cliq, but since I heard about this phone I wanted it, I like my Cliq, however sometimes the screen, in particular with games is unresponsive, is it worth it for me to sell my Cliq and get this, is the call quality good? hows the reception? is it snappier then the Cliq, I love the camera on this phone and form factor, who would reccommend this over the Cliq?

Milky,
if you're only getting 9 hours i would guess the phone isn't sleeping right. Install spareparts and see if it can tell you anything.

I was using spare parts, but I started having problems with it. For some reason it wouldn't update the battery history. Or does it just have very long intervals between refreshing? The program still kind of confuses me a bit.

As far as i can tell it doesn't updated unless you back out to it's main menu and re-select battery history.

Yeah, the problem with mine was that it wouldn't update at all, even when i closed the program and started it up again. But i reinstalled it and it seems to be in working condition again.

I think after conditioning the battery a few more times, lifespan has improved quite a bit. Using the profile for low battery that comes with Toggle Settings works pretty well too. Now when my phone is just sitting around it only loses 1 to 2% of battery an hour instead of 4 or 5.
