I'm not the first to post this on here but many people still don't know about it. It's not going to give you fastboot back but it will give you root without having to do the guide at http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/263285-guide-froyo-2-2-1-root-users.html

SuperOneClick V1.9.1 is located on XDA at [APP]SuperOneClick v1.6.3 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App, Get UNLOCK code) - xda-developers
You need to read and follow the instructions on that page, and if it helps consider donating to the author of SuperOneClick.

Again at least three others have posted info about this program here and the thread easy way to root froyo that wroked for me touches on it but doesn't link to where to get it.
A thread tooting it as a one click (well almost one
click)root method for Ally with OTA or LGMU froyo doesn't currently exist on the Ally forum so here you go.
**update** SOC now supports the Gingerbreak exploit to root.

Dautley... you just couldnt hold it in any longer could ya. LOL

Lets just say I did make some inquires before posting this and after being told it should be no problem, I felt people looking for answers deserved to know about it. I personally used Tridents guide, learned from it, and donated to his cause but it's obvious by looking through the thread that it's just not for everyone.:)

if you do this method you will not have fastboot and afaik will not be able to flash 2.2.1 roms.

No you won't have fastboot, but just wondering if a third party app such as ROM Manager would give you the ability to use 2.2.1 third party ROMS? I don't know that it would as I'm not much into the custom ROM thing but thought it might be worth checking out.

Good points dots and Goonie21, everyone needs to be aware of the pros and cons of each method.

***Edit***: If you originally had fastboot SuperOneClick will not wipe it but if your phone shipped with a version newer than VS740ZV06 or you updated with lgmu and want fastboot back you will need to use [GUIDE] FroYo 2.2.1 for Root Users!

***Edit***: If you do root with SuperOneClick and find you want to install a custom ROM and don't have fastboot you can always go back and do [GUIDE] FroYo 2.2.1 for Root Users!

Least you got adb and fastboot setup incase you ever need it :p
Dots.... Jrock and I have made a way to put Fastboot back on After using the Super One Click Method. We want to do this with Our Other testers to verify... However Its almost a done deal.

We Will be doing a write up soon. :D

**EDIT** May have jumped the gun on this one.
We are still testing. Thank you for your patients.

So let me get this straight, i can now follow tridents guide, an get the each update until i get froyo, an then i can just do the oneclick root, to root the phone, an hopefully, swc2001 will get the fastboot installer working soon.

If you do Tridents guide to the end you will already have fastboot as well as root. SuperOneClick 1.6.3 is an entirely different method to root a unrooted phone that has the stock ROM on it from either OTA or LGMU. I think swc2001 is working on a way to *get* fastboot onto a rooted phone that doesn't have it for whatever reason, ie used LGMU to get the froyo update. Hope this clears things up a little bit.

You do realize he is not the only person who worked on that thread right? And do realize that if I wouldn't have found the LGMU hole that ALLOWED going DOWN a version the way to downgrade to V6 may not even be available. and he did copy and paste from that thread about the steps on downgrading.

You're giving him all the credit. Like he single-handedly designed that guide. And found the needed method on his own. Like it was all him.

Afteraffekt and I helped him with that guide...

Just saying...

Dautley you cant flash fastboot onto a rooted phone that does not have fastboot. you need the bootloader image that contains fastboot. NOT THE BOOT.IMG and currently its not possible to do that because we cant even get a working bootloader image. plus could easily perm-brick your device/

Okay I have no idea how swc2001 intends to get fastboot on the phone so changed the word from "flash" to "get". Still, way to go swc2001!:)
