use rom manage only to partition the card, rom manager is a grade a pain in the ass.
to access recovery to do any rom flashing/wiping etc power down device then hold voldown+power
this willl bring you to the bootloader screen so use voldown to select recovery then press power to access it
you should be taken to a page that says clockworkmod recovery

1. Choose a ROM you want to try. Download it and save it to your computer (do NOT extract it, leave it as a .zip)

2. Plug the phone in via USB cable and mount the sd card so we can transfer files to it.

3. Copy the ROM .zip file and save it to the root of the sd card (NOT in any folders just on the sd card itself). Once it is done copying, unplug the phone from the usb cable.

4. Turn off the phone, then turn it back on by holding down Volume Down and Power until the white bootloader screen comes up

Now using the volume buttons select Recovery and wait for the phone to boot into recovery mode.

5. Scroll to Wipe Data, select wipe data/factory reset and then select wipe dalvik cache.

6. Now scroll to install .zip from sd card and select the ROM .zip file we saved to the sdcard and wait for it to finish flashing. Once it is done, hit reboot and you are all set! Enjoy! If you want to flash a different ROM, simply redo this procedure and choose a different ROM.

The DHD rom I'm using is great!!

anyway to partition my card without having to burn a file to cd... as in can it be done throiugh an app ?
as stated above you can use rom manager, its about the only thing its good for and even then it doesnt do it as well as gparted

if you have a spare usb stick you can create a bootable usb of gparted, youll be happy for it sometime down the line when youll need to use it

in rom manager use ext 512 and swap 0

be aware this will format your card so if theres anything on it you want to keep, move it now

I use Titanium Backup to show what my memory is.

I prefer quick system info. Its accurate but also it tells you if its working or not. It takes the amount of space and whether there is a script using it to tell you whats going on. Titanium just tells you space on EXT partition.

Spare parts is handy. It tells you some useful battery information like partial wake usage. Its also good to slow down window animations / transitions. IMHO they look nice if they're slowed down slightly.
