PC WORLD First Impressions!

How often will you use that feature? I know you said something about vacation and hotel rooms the other day, but come on for that once a year scenario you wont get the phone you want ?

No no its worse than that. I am in hotel rooms four nights a week (Mon-thur).

I have tried everything over the years...packing a dvd player, watching movies on my lap top..and currently...watching them on my 10inch gtab.

Now that i have learned how to rip DVDs and side load them....using my phone as a portabile movie player would be beyond awesome. Unfortunately there is no HDMI out on the gtab nor inspire..and the hotel i stay out is filled with 46 inch flat screens with working HDMI access...

If you were me..would you consider the atrix over this one issue..i have to tell you, i am torn.

I dont know because if I was you i would buy the add on little box to stream it. Or better yet see if the tv's in the hotel have DLNA already in them. I mean if I was you and the Inspire seemed the better fit ( Like it does for me) I would check into those options first because this is the phone i want more. i mean if the TV's dont have DLNA how much could that little HTC hub cost?

No DLNA on hotel TVs

While i am against buying more devices all i can say is...

"Link to that usb hub please so i can read up on it"? I am clueless.

Trying to find it on the site, but in the other thread of the sense video I posted it shows it in that video.

Found it.

Its called the HTC Media link. It is basically a reciever box that plugs into the tvs HDMI port and connects wirelessly to the phone from across the room. It does not look to large and would allow you to hold the phone and use it like a remote control...which to be honest..i like that better than than having an HDMI hardware connected to the tv directly..

IF its not outrageously expensive that is.

yea I'm hoping their review is much better lol

Seems to use general Wi-fi protocols meaning you can also stream from a lap top or other wi-fi devices throughout the house to the reciever (depending on how you configure it).

I have to admit..i likely

Engagdet seems to think it was designed JUST for me.

"So we can't recommend the Media Link as the primary, cross-platform gateway to stream your digital media collection to the living room television. However, it could prove useful as a highly portable accessory that lets you quickly share the media captured by your new HTC handset to an HDMI-equipped display. But what really sells us on the Media Link is the idea of setting up a portable WiFi network in the hotel room that lets us stream compatible media off the laptop to the hotel television while lying in bed using HTC's Desire Z or Desire HD as the remote control -- naked of course, holding a turkey leg. Unfortunately, we suspect that HTC had hoped for a larger, more genteel demographic with its first foray into the digital living room."

With this i wouldnt even have to bother ripping the DVDS, i could just pop in the disk and use the HTC inspire as a remote control for the lap top to the hotel hdmi ready tv.

I thought about this, but the I realized... my HDTV is connected to my Xbox 360, which is networked into my main PC. I stream HD content constantly to it... so I wouldn't have a use for this... and besides... I am out of connections on my receiver!

I wouldnt buy it to use at home, but the travel angle. You could rock this at hotels, friends houses, beach houses, etc. Especially if you side load movies on here and or when they come out with a netflix app!
