help please, phone gone very odd! cant make calls etc

First of all hi, ive been a lurker here for ages but now feel the need to post.
Basically my htc desire went all strange the other day, one second it was max signal and the next, no signal what so ever, soetimes i go to make a call and it says dialing but i cant hear anything, next time i can try to make a call and it just flips back to the number pad straight away.
Same with texts.....one min i can send, next min i cant.
Never had a signal problem here, friends phones are fine ?
Any ideas?? its pretty urgent as im a personal trainer and need my phone for my business and the way it is at the moment i could lose clients !

This actually lools like a classical sim/network problem. Put the sim in another phone and test it

Yes tried a battery pull, phone was fine all day apart from when i got home , just had 2 random reboots too !!

update.....now when i switch the phone on i have no bars and just a little x where the signal bars should be......oh and its just rebooted again ! i think im going to have to pay carphone warehouse a visit..........brilliant

Well, like Rasta said, try the sim on another phone and if not back to HTC it goes.

would the sim affect the internet though? as i cant even load market place despite the signal bar being full now and with a H

Try putting it in airplane mode, play around with it for like 2mins and then take it off, this finds a new signal mast completely and have you downloaded any app that could be causing this ?

Can't you just put the sim in another phone? Seriously it could just be a bad sim causing problems. Sims are generally free and would have saved you some pain.

thing is mate, i still dont think its your phone
if a sim develops a fault then it does stuff the the radio stack that can be almost like a short circuit. it can die completely so you dont get signal, it can cause reboots and odd behaviour
this will happen on any phone that takes a simcard if a sim is at fault (trust me i work in the mobile industry)

this is why i instantly asked you, i didnt want you to go down the root of loosing everything and being at the same predicament because the culprit is the sim

better still, if you have someone in your family on the same network, try their sim in your device

im not saying its a definite but im saying its very likely

Suggestions...

- try sim in another phone
- check for network problems / down
- check for incorrect apn settings
- obvious, but check you have credit / renewed a top up ?
- Factory reset
- contact HTC

I get this in certain areas - One I am particularly aware of is Finsbury Park, London. I have 3 phones in 3 different network. 2 Androids and 1 Blackberry. Desire (on Orange) is the worst with losing network/data. My other android phone is Mini Pro on 3 and this even though is a lot inferior phone is lot better with 3g data when I am out an about. I have tried all the solutions suggested and more and nothing has helped. 6 more months to go on my contract then I am getting ATRIX.

Rasta, will try another sim in my phone and mine in theirs.....but its just made me notice out of all my mates etc how many arent on vodafone ! tried it in my wifes blackberry but its a work one and just came up with this odd message, am at the gym today and will hopefully be able to find someone to try it, if not do you suggest i go to a vodafone shop and try another sim before i take the phone back for repair at carphone warehouse?
I havent touched the apn settings....could this cause a problem with calls etc then ?
Phone was 100% for 8 hours yesterday and as soon as i got home it went all weird.
Sometimes i can make calls...then the next min i can only text and it seems to swap about randomly.
I would prefer to be able to sort this rather than send it off with carphone and have one of their bricks for at least 2 weeks as like ive said i need a phone for my job !
