T Mobile 3GB FUP reducing to 500mb?

as far as I was aware the Nexus S doesnt have 4G...its rumoured t-mobile MAY release a 4G version but as yet nothing is concrete..

My roomate has the nexus s on t-mobile and he gets 4g which shows up as "H" instead of the 3g emblem, and its very quick, but he doesnt use it to tether very much so he doesnt have my same problem

thats not 4G thats HSDPA which isnt the same..thats 3.5G and its been standard now for a couple of years...hell my Desire is rocking 'H' now...and there isnt a 4G backbone in the UK yet.

Well even if so, the carriers in the US need to upgrade there towers to keep up with the bandwidth that these phones use, I used up all of my 5gbs in less than a week, and now the data connection has been limited till the end of February. It is so slow that I cant really even use the internet on my phone unless im on a wifi network. And im sure im not the only one using this much bandwidth. Its just really frustrating having such slow internet when i pay for a so called "unlimited data plan". And the worst part, none of the carriers here have a truly unlimited data plan, so i cant even get a mobile network that will do what i need.

Ha ha lots of things, computer, laptop, xbox live, netflix, my home internet is currently really slow and unreliable (stupid time warner). and i also use it for buisness purposes as a mobile hotspot. but i have noticed that netflix and hulu streaming seems to take up alot of bandwidth so I think thats what causing so much data consumption. But i hate waiting for a show or movie to start playing or becomes glitchy and pauses to rebuffer, so i use the wifi tether on my phone sometimes and it runs perfect.

You do realise you're exactly the kind of person who's causing these companies to lower their limits to avoid excessive use?

well while i understand your pain cos i tether mine if my internet goes down at home (im used to 20mb/s) i have to reality check you
that type of usage is why these caps have been placed as the average user doesnt do that currently but if people are not detered from it then it will become the norm

with the current state of affairs with global environmental green policies its apparent that erecting cell sites left right and centre is bad for earth in general which use electricity, needs trees cutting down, cables laying etc etc.
we take for granted what we have and selfishness makes us forget the bigger picture
we are greedy consumers and tbh i think FUP is actually a good thing (they should just advertise it like this in the first place and not ultd)
5gb in a week is huge, i have a cap of 1gb per month and i nearly hit it streaming 4 hrs of tv for 2 days in a row as a tethered modem (boredom with no net at home)

Well i was doing all the streaming because i was under the impression it was unlimited, and i was using it mainly for business purposes. When i got the text message from t-mobile saying i was using too much bandwidth I researched it and found that i wasnt the only one with this issue. now that i know there is a cap im gonna have to ration my usage.

I dont believe they need to put up more towers, just update the existing towers to keep up with the bandwidth these phones need. And still in the end they should not be selling a unlimited data plan just to find out its not really unlimited "high speed" internet.

I do take it for granted, but thats why i pay for it. I pay $40 a month for home internet, and $30 for my phone data plan and my phone is much quicker, Hence why i started tethering at home for netflix and xbox. but I can no longer do that untill they can support that kind of mobile bandwidth.

you cant upgrade towers without making them bigger or buiding new ones

how do you fit more people on a bus the same size as another bus at maximum capacity? you have to get bigger buses or get more buses to accommodate the growth of people needed transport. its the same principle
just because data is invisible doesnt mean that it doesnt make something else physically bigger to accommodate


i do agree they should be more transparent and not sell it as unlimited

3G/HSDPA data modules are tiny... They don't require a whole tower you could easily place more modules on one tower to increase bandwidth it would just cost money.

im pretty sure theres a ruling in place stopping just this because I believe if there are too many in a certain space then they interfere or something...I dunno just heard that somewhere..

alot of towers are up to capacity and they use alot of power
this is why you see fewer of them per sell site and why companies like o2 and voda have gone into a site sharing partnership
