When will Droid get 2.1?

Since droid does not have multiple layers of software like most HTC phones, 2.1 will most likely come to the droid as soon as the stable version is released, or possibly in the weeks following the release of the Nexus one, since the software on there is also stock. Its just a matter of Verizon and possibly motorola schedule for it. They both are going to want to have the best phones so they are going to do it as fast as they can. Also, i have read that most HTC phones are going to go straight from there current version to 2.1 in january or february, so you can only assume the droid will get it then, or before then.

Edit: I am by no means an expert on this, just saying what I think. I sadly foresee someone wanting to bash my estimations as seems to happen often. ha. just thought I would say that before anyone did. ha

Actually that sounds like a pretty reasonable expectation. I'm hoping the vanilla version of Android 2.0 we have will make it easy and painless for Motorola/Verizon to update the phone.

Well I Recently tried to watch a flash video on my droid and it said flash player along with updates will be availible early 2010.

Flash is not included in 2.1. We have to wait on Adobe for that one. Regardless, with both on their way, 2010 should be a good year for Droid owners.

I have been searching for news/rumors of when the Droid willl receive the 2.1 update? Does anyone have any info on if and when the Droid will be updated to 2.1?

Calm down. Let them get the 2.0.1 update out for us Milestone (the European Droid) users first, and then we can start clamouring for 2.1 for both machines.

I still can't get my camera to focus :(

A compliment :), I don't often get those :D

Question about what you think will happen for flash. Due to some recent reports about adobe products being the #1 target for hackers, I am starting to think it will be like one of those apps you have you have to have on your phone with some built in layers of security from google. Seems to risky and unconventional to be just some app.

Do you guys think we'll see updates after 2.1 for the droid?! Or will that probably be the final one?!

No way, as long as we have stock OS we should be able to get all the updates ever (unless hardware becomes outdated for software)

So, software will be available at least 2 years after they stop selling this phone on verizon I assume, since they will have customers with it.

My brothers RAZR still gets updates ;)

I'm willing to bet there will be security patches after Flash is released, but I'm also willing to bet that the initial Flash app (when Adobe finally gets around to it) will be able to be installed without anything additional required. I really don't like Adobe or Flash. I wish its use wasn't so widespread. It sucks to look forward to it only because it's a necessity for many websites.

why don't you like it? just curious. It allows for so many new uses and implementation on phones as well as great thing for web developers/designers like me who haven't worked much with android SDK to which adobe is like a first language to :)

Am I the only one who is a little wary of flash?

Sure I look forward to Hulu on my phone....but I'd also like the option to disable it completely......the last thing is need is unnecessary flash hogging bandwidth/time/CPU loading some 'punch the monkey' ad

I bet most users awaiting Flash are looking for a little more than "Hulu"

.. if you know what I'm sayin..lol. :p

I just think it's very cumbersome and overused. Don't get me wrong, some flash implementations are extremely nice or useful, but many more are overdone or invasive. It seems like Flash is everywhere when it's not really necessary. Just kind of leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I appreciate a tasteful or effective implementation of Flash, but there are so many bad, obnoxious ones out there it's hard to like it. Plus, Adobe doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to security.

Boy I sure hope so! I want to never not get the updates for this robot! I mean at worst you just root but it'd be nice to not have too.

I hope 2.1 is rootable...Only think I truly want with root is APPS2SD and then the overclocking app! That will be soooo nice!

I'm sure we will get it, but I still doubt it will be in January, maybe March or February. Mainly because of the Nexus 1, take the DROID and 2.0 for example, what other phones have gotten 2.0 yet? The Moment...no, the G1.....no, MyTouch3G......no, Galaxy.....no. I don't include the Hero's because it is up to HTC to update Sense onto it, but if none of those other guys have gotten 2.0 yet then what makes everyone think we will get it so soon? Sure the DROID is a big flagship device, but the G1 was THE FIRST Android phone and they are just now hearing whispers of getting it. Google is gonna use everything it can to push the Nexus 1, and 2.1 is definitely something they can use to atrract buyers if no other phone has it yet.

That said I still hope we do get it soon.

I don't understand why vanilla installations can't be updated the day of release. It would be a huge plus for any phone. Or why things like sense, which mostly are just UI and widgets can't be delivered in app form to make the entire process seamless and instant. Its the same thing my friend with the Iphone keeps telling me, there are too many devices with to many differences, which i'm starting to believe. They could at least standardize updates, or have them done directly through google so google can push it out to all phones.

I doubt it. From the looks of it the Nexus One is NOT the google phone but rather just another google phone aka android. If the HTC phones are getting 2.1 in March/February Motorola and Verizon are gonna make sure they have it on their phone too.

A question - I've seen presumptive release dates for Android 2.1 come and go with nothing....(I have the Moto Droid) - anyone out there have any information on the next expected release date for Android 2.1 for the rest of us?

I also assume that once it is released for GA, that going into Settings>Search for System Updates will grab the 2.1 update and automatically update your phone. Am I incorrect on this?

Thanks in advance,
