Root Am I chasing the pot of gold with rooting?

I am considering rooting. But will I end up swapping out roms in hopes of finding one that is stable and fast? Do all the roms have bugs as the OEM does?

I basically want to freeze the bloatware and have a quick stable phone with good battery life. Is this for me?

Thanks. I read a lot of posts about problems with roms and didn't know if I am just going to end up with the same bugs as the OEM OS or if it's quantifiably better.

apex is best start for you, and then you can try out liberty and darkslide when you feel more savvy

Thanks. I read the FAQs for rooting but I can you tell me once rooted how to go about installing a ROM? Or point me to a dummy's guide?

once your rooted you are going to have to download several things to get started
Rom manager
Rom manager Premium(Paid)
Droid X Bootstrap(Paid)
Premium and Bootstrap i do recommend its much easier than going into recovery mode and doing it that way, but its your call
with bootstrap and rom manager premium is as follows
1- once you have downloaded your rom from your pc, plug in your usb from computer to phone, then move it to the root of your sd card which is the first thing you see when you enable mass storage mode, just right click in a open white space and paste
2- once its done moving, unplug usb from computer
3- open Droid X Bootstrap hit bootstrap recovery
4- hit allow for root access, and wait for success
5- open rom manager after you have already downloaded rom manager premium
6- Back up current rom
7- Name it STOCK
8- Once phone boots back up go to Droid X Bootstrap
9- hit Bootstrap Recovery, and wait for success again
10- open rom manager
11- install rom from sd card
12- find your rom you want
13- hit it and wipe data/cache to be safe
14- always hit allow if it asks you
15- wait for phone to boot up
16- enjoy your new rom

and like i said, this is how i do it, and i havent soft bricked from a rom yet except Tranquility which i wont install again because of that, but i hope that works

once your done with that look up the Sticky for root guide and look for Root apps you want, your going to want to spend money, cause some stuff you will need later on your going to have to buy, and i bought Droid X Bootstrap and rom manager premium because they worked hard on that stuff to make it so user friendly, its something to look into

The backup won't sit in the root of the SD card it will be located at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/nameofbackup
And No, to get back to your stock rom backup. Boot into recovery and scroll down to backup and restore. then click restore. then click the one you want.

if you can get it for free then do it, i bought it, not too worried about it just a little bit of money, besides he did such a good job id like to reward him ^_^

and rom manager i use it to install from sd card, i think someone said that you need the premium version to install from sd card, but not sure, but id rather pay for the things that others have worked hard on and i use regularly

Thanks again. Do you think I would see any performance increase with simply rooting and freezing the unneeded apps with Titanium backup?

im not sure because i never really tried that, i know you will see some speed increases with a new rom like liberty or apex, just all depends, but it never hurts to try it out and see

I don't use rom manager. It corrupted a backup I had once. And once you hit bootstrap recovery once that should be all you need. All it does it write some files to your system. But it can never hurt lol

yea i always do it, you can never be too cautious lol, and its like any phone really everything works differently on the same phone cause no 2 phones are exactly the same, it works like a charm on mine, and thats how i install roms and themes ^_^

For sure. I used it religiously when I first got my phone. I'm not sure if the corrupted backup was a fluke or what. I just use DX bootstrapper. But to each his own. I do like the gui that comes with rom manager.
