Root [HOW TO]: Root, Install a Custom ROM, Fix the Market, and Add Flash

This one, [GUIDE] How To Install ClockworkMod - xda-developers

I am following the instructions exactly but it won't work, I get the proper messages when it tries to flash, but it won't go into recovery after that.

So you're using the sd card method, did you try the non sd card method? That's what used since the beginning, the file is in the link I provided. The file is called cwmod_internal.zip.

wrong box, but I tried to sideload the ezRoot and my Gtab won't parse, not a techie, don't understand superclick, any body can help. Just got the Gtab tonight.
Thanks in advance!

Usually parsing errors are caused by incomplete apks. I haven't used a root tool before but I know people have used Z4root successfully.

Solid posted where to get z4root. What are you trying to accomplish with the gtab? Did you want to flash a rom and get rid of the stock interface?

To Calsnook or to anyone that wants to flash Clockwork Recovery without using a SD card.

Looks like you are having trouble loading Clockwork.

Try this to simplify things.

Don't use a SD card. Take it out of the gtablet.

  • Download the file below to your PC. It's a zip file for Clockwork mod.
  • Use Winzip to extract the two files. It should be an update.zip and a recovery folder.
  • Take those two files and side load them to your gtablet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=478613&d=1293950847

  • After that, turn off your gtablet.
  • Then press and hold the power button and the Volume+. Keep holding it until you see the viewsonic birds.
  • Then it should install ClockworkMod.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi xrm405o,
Just picked your reply at an apple store, responding on an iPad (hahahaha) I will try your latest advice.
My computer will not show the G in F: I tried it on my wives laptop and itdidn't show up there.
T he usb mass storage only shows up in the device manager, have no idea how to open it there.
At this moment I have to side load, it's so frustrating...standing here tapping here on the pad and loving the way it's responding, THIS WHAT I'm expecting from the G once rooted. I want to use it to create content, more then consume content.

Lol. So you tried the Nook, have a Galaxy tab and a G-tab...might as well get the Ipad. :p

What OS are you running on your wife's laptop? I have a XP PC and it reads my gtablet, my nook, and my droids as USB mass storages just fine without any additional drivers.

The USB mass storage that you see in the device manager what drive is it point to?

OK. amr405o, I think the Clockwork took, I have never gotten that screen with the boot up (as per early posts). It went to the normal screen except for the recovery msg on the top left. I decided to use a memory card reader and transferred the Clock files to my sdcard there.

It took, then installed card, booted. The Clock showed up on my G (sdcard2 ESExplorer), but still zipped. I pressed on the icon the pop-up shows 'extract here", I did that and now assume the clock is loaded.

(my wife's lap is a Dell w/XP, all the same msg's. I think our laps are too old? maybe 3-4 yrs) just weird:eek:!

I have the VEGan file on the card, and when I tap the icon, it shows s screen that look like it's unzipped, but the box isn't moving just showing 100%. How do I know it's loaded, having never seen that black screen with the choices, and homepage never changed.

Now, should I delete VEGan, and load the tnt, lite and try that or what's the clue that VEGan is in? Also, after Clock load, only some Youtube plays, can't access the title box to input, it's just dark.

Samsung Tab going back today. Thanks thus far, still searching.

To check if clockwork is installed, power down the gtab..then power on while holding the volume + button. You should see the clockwork main menu. Solid posted a screen shot of what it looks in this thread.
If you choose to install Vegan, keep it zipped up. Don't extract the contents. Make sure clock work sees it by by choosing "install zip from sd card" in the clockwork menu. Then choose zip, then your vegan zip should show up. If it does, press the back button until you get back to the clockwork main menu then wipe data/factory reset ...let that run. Once its done, wipe cache...let that run. Then go to install zip from sd card...choose zip ...then let vegan install. Go back the clockwork main menu...then reboot. Vegan should be installed.

Don't unzip the update zip from the cwmod_microsd zip. You should have three things in your SDcard.

1. Update.zip
2. Recovery folder
3. Vegan.zip

That's it. Don't unzip anything else. Also I would have these three files unzipped on your laptop prior to transferring it to your SD card. Don't use ESfilemanager to lessen the confusion.

Okay, I might have messed up again. Too many folders on my PC desktop. I wound up loading the internal Clockwork on the G card. Also on the internal card (finally understand the USB transfer), it has the VEGan file and update.

Yet, when I boot I never get that screenshot to install VEGan. Where have I gone wrong?

Should I delete the VEGan files from the internal and load again from SDcard2?

I boot pwr and +, I see a box, green arrow flowing (looks androidy), then the regular screen comes on that's it! I go to about tablet and it's still tapntap.

What am I doing wrong?

Don't do anything with the vegan zip, keep the vegan zip in your internal memory. When you power and volume +, does the green arrow show up again? Try it out, maybe you got clock work loaded and you don't even know it.

Ok, held the buttons for 4 go rounds, the box and arrow came up every time...but nada, zilch...NOTHING.

I have no external card in, and the internal card shows:

FOLDERS: Android, backups, Books, DCIM, download, gtab.VEGAn.1.0, LOST.DIR

2 ZIP FOLDERS: cwmod_internal.zip gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip

Do I need to delete something, put the external in with another program?

Any thoughts?

ok, i think i've got this for you.

1. use your computer to extract the cwmod_internal.zip. this should result in a file called update.zip and a recovery folder
2. delete both of the .zip files currently on your internal SD card
3. copy the update.zip and recovery folder you just extracted to the root of the internal SD on your g-tab. this is the top folder, do not put it in any other sub-folder.
4. power down your g-tab and reboot into recovery (volume + and power). this should install clockworkMod
5. reboot and delete the update.zip and recovery folder from your internal SD
6. power down and reboot into recovery again, you should now get the green clockworkMod screen i put in post #9 of this thread. if you don't, stop and report back to us as the rest of the steps are not going to accomplish anything. if it does work, use the home key to select "reboot now".
7. move the VEGAn.zip back to your internal SD.
8. power down and reboot into recovery
9. refer to alternate steps 12-18 in my original post to finish everything else.

GOOD LUCK!! we're all rooting (pun intended) for you.
