Hi, I've just bought my HTC desire and it looks like a great phone, but i cabn't connect to the internet? I'm on vodafone and I've previously used the vodafone live access point to connect to the net with other phones, I've found the menu that allows you to select an access point but I don't see the vodafone live network in the available access point? any idea how I can get connected up to the net? Thanks!

I'm on Vodafone UK and it works fine, you could check the APN in use but when you first set the phone up it asks what type of SIM card you're using (I'm using Vodafone Contract) and it sets up the APN automatically

If yours isn't working I'd call Vodafone and ask them as it might be a SIM card issue or them just not activating the data plan. You don't use Vodafone Live any more either - you use Contract WAP or Contract Internet (I use WAP, makes no difference tbh)

I think what he means is he's missing any vodafone APN settings and this is actually quite common...whether its a new handset or sticking a voda sim into an unlocked handset..

theres numerous posts over on the vodafone forum itself all from annoyed customers who either bought or slipped a card in a unlocked desire and nothing being there and any APN settings they get from the site not working either...

its a real pig to set it up sometimes for vodafone...I had to use APN remover and wipe all the apns on the phone and redo what Vodafone gave me over the phone and only THEN did it work...also had to do it in a specific order too lol bloody vodafone...

Thanks for the replies!

I'm in New Zealand and I've gone through all the phone settings....

in the wireless and network settings I have mobile networks activated, and Vodafone NZ under network operators but I still cant seem to browse the web?

I have a standard data connection with my prepaid sim that I've used with other phones previously so I'm not sure what the problem is here?

Any suggestions?

I would say contact Vodafone NZ then directly as they can advise on the right APN settings etc or why its not working....

sometimes...well according to them, the card has to be 'activated' their end to work on a data network...I've heard different statements as to the truth of this or just them BS'ing you to keep you on the helpline and spending more money on the call....

but yea could just give them a call see if they can help..
