Will we see a Refreshed Fascinate with 4G?

Hmm, a Fascinate 4G running on vzw's new LTE network! I must say, such a device would really interest me.

So here we have T-Mobile getting set to release a refreshed Galaxy S Vibrant with a 4G radio on board, as well as a front facing camera. I wonder if vzw would pull such a move at this moment in time. Honestly if vzw did pull a stunt like this, and it had 4G LTE, Froyo, a Super Amoled + screen, and a front facing shooter, I'd most likely buy it! The reasons are simple, I really like my phone, the size is absolutely perfect, the screen is down right beautiful, the camera & video recording is on the money, and the phone performs really well over all. Especially the new replacement I received last week, yes GPS works Perfectly now with the new update! Throw in the additions I mentioned, and this becomes one of, if not the best phone on the market!

What do you guys think?

The as of yet unnamed 4g samsung phone with no release date on verizon is essentially a hideous looking 4g version of the fascinate....don't bother with it.....the galaxy s2 is due out this summer which will murder it spec wise.....and id guarantee no devs will get the 4g one upcoming.....it will be another continuum rom/kernel wise

Yeah, if they basically just add a front-facing camera, and a 4G radio; it'll be my phone of choice. The wouldn't need to change anything else IMO.

fair enough, imo though its not worth wasting an upgrade on, or tying yourself to a contract over. as hardware wise the galaxy s phones are 9 months old...so if you take a 2 year on it.....ancient

and if you root, id count on virtually no devs getting it and spitting out kernels/roms/mods or themes either

That gross looking 4G thing that Samsung was showing off at CES looks like a car accident, its a mess....no interest!
However, maybe vzw does a refresh like T-Mobile did with the current Galaxy line? Hey, you never know.

This reminds me of first seeing the Droid in its pre-availability ads, and wondering how they'd expect to sell such a monster in great numbers.

True... I'll assume the "standard" types of upgrades will also occur in this time: New CPU chip, new GPU, more RAM, etc. The usual "Moore's Law" types of things.

But, with the phone at $40 right now w/two year, if they just added the front facing and 4G, and made it the "Entry Level" phone (Replacing the Vortex at $20), it would be a smash hit still.

Some of my concern would just sit with how 4G would play with Battery life. I'll find out first hand when I grab the Thunderbolt on the 14th. I really hope its nothing like wimax was on my EVO...can someone say Terrible!
However, my battery life been pretty good with the Fascinate on good ol 3G, maybe they bump up the battery a little if they do a refresh to 4G....

And yes, I think a refreshed Fascinate would sell like wildfire if the pricepoint was good! I know I would buy one for sure...

well that thing at ces is a refreshed fascinate with 4g and ffc and coming at some point...id assume galaxy s2 and the next gen (post tb) htc phones to vzw in june/july most likely...the fascinate is more than enough for me til then

Yuck....it looks like an old School Blackberry, what was Samsung thinking? Anyway, my Fascinate would be enough for me too...but I'm a tech geek, and can't pass up not giving vzw's First 4G device a whirl. I loved my EVO, so even though sense is a little long in the tooth, I'll still give the Thunderbolt a try. Both should keep me busy for a while. And maybe my Fascinate gets refreshed along the way. No desire for the Bionic, so I should be good for a while.

I agree that T-mobile's Galaxy 4G looks like nice refresh to original Vibrant. It's got a little bigger 1650mAh battery too. Still some vibrant haters are not giving it any loves... I also wish VZW does the similar refresh to Fascinate, not that hideous looking 4G LTE phone from CES.

I guess our best bet for Verizon super-phone is either Galaxy S2 (will it be Fascinate 2?) or HTC's first dual core snapdragon phone (Incredible 2?) if we have no interest in Moto's Tegra 2 line up. They are probably coming at late Q2 at the earliest or later.

I rarely even use the 3G on mine, as I'm always near WiFi. 1st gen 4G radio will = horrible battery life. For a service I will rarely use, on a phone that already barely makes it thru the day on it's 3G radio.

No thanks! The SF will last me until LTE is widely accessible, and the 2nd gen Dual Cores are in production. If there is one thing I've learned, it's not to shell out that cash for the bleeding edge stuff... unless of course you like bleeding!

Yeah Im kinda in this boat in terms of 4G. The SF has good enough hardware specs to last me until I actually have 4G service in my dinky town. Its likely not till the end of the year or even 2012. So while I might be able to get a nice SGS2 this summer Im not sure I would. Time will tell of course. But if/when we get a nice GB package on this phone I do believe I'll be content for a long long time, heck Im already pretty content without genuine froyo custom kernels. Besides if I can hold out till the end of the year I might be looking at Tegra3

Current model can not be refreshed to add 4GLTE for Verizon. It requires a whole additional set of RF for their 700MHz spectrum. Duplexers, Amplifier, receiver, LTE chip, 2 antennas, and other smaller components. The lower the frequency, the larger the components. Prior to 700MHz, 800MHz (Cellular) was the largest group of components in a device taking up ~25-30% of total non-display internal volume. Now add a lower frequency and duplicate all the components for it...
