Help Problems changing micro sd card

I bought a new transcend 4gb class 6 micro sd card. I don't know what went wrong. I put my orig card in my comp and copied (not moved) the files to a folder on my comp. I put new sd card in and formatted on native windows xp formatter, then read it's best to format with a program downloaded from sd.org, so then I did it again with that (both full format, not quick). I copied the files from comp to card then put card in my phone, and my phone froze, did bat pull and phone immediately acted weird again, but you could see on the phone how much memory was left on new card. I went to my gallery and couldn't see any pics phone said something about sd card, and then phone froze again, so I did bat pull and unmounted sd card then hit format on phone, I mounted card then connected usb to comp to copy files that way. I copied 1 by 1 and several worked then comp said couldn't connect to device (i think). I looked at phone and it said sd damaged reformat. The phone wouldn't format it, put card in comp and both windows and sd.org said card couldn't be formatted. What happened? Is there anyway to fix the card? I put my old sd card in the phone and it's working fine (remember I copied instead of moved files so old sd had everything on it still)
If the card can't be fixed, which I'm assuming it's damaged and can't, I'm going to get another card. So most important is what happened? Did I do it wrong? Is it because I copied instead of moved the files? If not why did my phone keep freezing or not read the card? What should I do differently next time? I'm not very good at tech stuff and don't know much about it either. I've never changed an sd card in any phone either. Thank you, anyone's help will be very much appreciated.

What filesystem did you format the sdcard with? I think FAT32 is the most common; perhaps NTFS could cause the problems you describe. Might want to pull it out and scandisk it to make sure there's no corruption.

It said it did it in fat32, it didn't give me an option to choose (or I didn't see one) and it did say fat 32. I think the card may be damaged now, after all that the computer won't format it (says card can't be formatted). I'm getting another one anyday, so now I'm worried it will happen again. The main thing I'm wondering now is did I do it correctly (obviously something happened) but did I have the right idea? What procedure would you suggest to change cards? I've never changed or put music on cards before or anything so I have no idea. I just kind of guessed how to do it.

Any chance the adapter being used to format the card in the PC has a write-protect notch in it? If it slid to the protected position the PC would refuse to reformat it. I'm running out of ideas here.

The other day when I tried to reformat it it wouldn't even start the process and would say it couldn't format the card, I learned about the switch on the adapter today so I tried it again and the switch wasn't on write protect, but this time the formatting programs actually started the process and would get to a certain point and say that it was write protected. When I actually switched the write protect switch on it would say it immediatly (so it says it either way, it just starts the process if the adapters wp switch isn't on wp). The other day it wouldn't even try and didn't say anything about it being write protected.

today I also went to my comp - right clicked drive g - then properties (what I think you posted about earlier) and the graph that pops up and tells you available memory and free memory both said 0.00. It doesn't see any memory on the card? I must have done something to ruin it?!?! I put an old 1gb card that had music on it in the phone to see if the phone would freeze and it didn't so it had to be that card.

Is it necessary to format the card in the comp first, or can I just let the phone do it?
I ordered a new card today, hopefully I don't do whatever I did again.
