When will the iPhone hysteria end? PT Barnum would be so proud. I don't think the numbers will be that bad, but they'll be way higher than the Apple deserves. I do love how at&t iPhone users now feel free to go on about how their phones suck. Is there any other product or company in history that has been cut this much slack?

I think that getting an iphone is somewhat of a bad decision when Verizon will have 4G LTE phones releasing shortly after it. I am holding out for the Droid Bionic, but I might just keep my Droid Eris until it is lost or breaks. By that time, a whole new generation of phones will probably be out.

It's probably true that the Verizon iPhone will cut into Verizon Android sales, but will it actually spell the end of Android, as some pundits have written? It seems pretty unlikely.

I'm a T-Mobile Nexus One user and I don't notice iPhones coming to my carrier any time soon. Nor are they on Sprint. My guess is that the iPhone will continue to be a tough competitor, but there's plenty of room in the smartphone galaxy for other stars.

Once there's a few competent Android tablets on the market, that will make Android's grip even tighter. I really don't understand these polls anyway.

I don't believe the jump will be all that great, I laugh at the hype that many are trying to make this to be. A phone went to another carrier, big deal. Anyone who have an android top of the line smartphone is not worried about the iPhone.

As I have a smartphone for work and a smart phone for my personal line...I have thought about getting the iPhone for work just to be able to play with it. No keyboard, 3.5" screen, and an OS that resembles JUST the app drawer on my Fascinate without a decent notification system...just doesn't add up to something I'm really intrigued about. Where's the "wow" in the iPhone? I just don't get it...

Honestly, I would rather play with a Windows 7 phone as my work phone (considering we have an exchange server and I have had a windows phone as my work phone for the past 5 years). I still think that Android offers more than any other OS and the handset selection is so vast that you are bound to find a device that really grabs you.

Sure I'm a bit of a techie and I don't expect that everyone will hold my same views but I don't feel like 56% of Verizon's users will switch to the iPhone. I think there will be a large group of people that will finally make the switch from dumb phones or feature phones to the iPhone. BB users will most likely want to keep their physical keyboard, Android users will want to keep their widgets, and Windows phone users will want to keep their complete Microsoft integration. I just don't see a slew of smartphone users jumping ship to the iPhone.

I will be very curious to see how many actually do switch, then realize the iPhone is not the be-all-end-all phone they expected. I am guessing there will be a lot of returns within the 15 day window as folks go back to what they came from!
Dumb phone and feature phone users may stick with it but I truly don't see a ton of current smart phone users finding the grass to be greener in the land of Apple.

I haven't seen the exact wording but it wouldn't surprise me if those numbers were those considering switching, rather than absolutely going to switch. I can't imagine there are that many people who are out of contract or willing to pay full price right now. I am considering switching, but really am happy with my Incredible and my contract is only about a year old

Look, even if I wanted to switch from my Droid Incredible to an Iphone, I'd have to be crazy to do it. I'm one year into a two year contract with Verizon so not eligible for an upgrade. When I checked what Verizon wanted me to pay for an Iphone I nearly fell off the chair - 749.00 for the 32gig, and 649 for the 15gig. Even as an upgrade it would still be 299 & 199. The Iphone would have to come with a personal secretary to make it worth while. I know, I know, I could probably work around the prices since I have multiple phones or could cancel and sign up as a new subscriber, but where's the incentive?

I'm a hardcore smartphone enthusiast. I've had a huge number of new smarphones over the last five years. I maintain accounts with AT&T as well as Verizon. I am currently using an iPhone 4, Samsung Captivate, and Droid X.

Of those three the Captivate is far and away my favorite.

The Droid X, is in second place, and iPhone a very distant third.

I have not had one single problem with it. Fast, lag free, with some optimizations I performed (it's not rooted) I could not be happier. The major reason I'm about to buy a new HTC Inspire 4G from AT&T, is that I've always had really great call quality and less than one or two dropped calls per month. I've also been waiting for this phone to come out in a GSM version.

I had an EVO, really liked it, but the network coverage in my area was horrible so after the trial period I returned it. Everything about the HTC Inspire 4G is ideal for me. I spend a lot of time on the web as I travel and although I carry a laptop, it's so much easier to use a smartphone in airports etc.

The bottom line for me, is Android IS my OS of choice, and I have no intention of leaving that platform. There's too much fun, too many ways to customize the phone and it's only getting better

Even if you wanted the iphone it would be silly to get it now, I would wait for the 4G version.

Personally I love Android and all the choices I have with it and don't plan on switching. I would much rather have the Bionic.

I'm priviledged to know someone who is "in the know" for Verizon (and no it is not my local store manager LOL) who says that the Iphone is truly there to round out their lineup. Before Android took off like a rocket big red was in talks with apple about the iphone but they couldn't agree on a number so things fell throug. Along came android and completely changed the game. I don't think anyone foresaw how well androd was going to do. But it did and here we are now. I personally believe that apple has made a mis-step in it's marketing and deployment of the iphone. They seemed to be working under the assumption that it was "god like" and would forever dominate the market. They were wrong!!

Along came the little green monster and it took over!! Verizon (amon others) used this to gain a foothold on the smartphone market and it worked. The operating system has proven to be the iphone killer. Apple made their mistake by controlling everything so tightly. Android is a great operating system and we have a wide choice of phones the one is surely able to choose the hardware they want to showcase the operating system. The iphone is the iphone is the iphone.

Now apple has come to Verison and the tables are turned. Big Red has gotten the deal they want to widen their offerings and the price was not anywhere near the original negotiations. Apple has sort of painted themselves into a corner with the iphone limiting it to only AT&T.

Anyway I am not an Iphone hater I just like to compare things and decide on features and benefits. For this reason I chose the Samsung Galaxy Tab over the Ipad and I will choose the next android phone over the iphone when I upgrade next month.

Verizon will always have one genertion behind AT&T when it comes to the iphone. As my friend puts it they are treating the iphone like a red headed stepchild on Christmas eve. It's an offering but by no means their flagship.

I tried to tell people there are going to be a ton of people that leave Android for the Iphone on Verizon. If you think about it, in terms of new phones Android was really their only option unless you count blackberry. You can bank on The Iphone being the #1 seller in the US again this year.

That's the beauty of free markets!! Sales will determine who lands on top. If people put their love or hate of a certain genre of device aside just buy the one you want and works for you!! There was a time I wanted a Iphone but after android experience they can keep the Iphone. It just doesn't do what I want it to do in the way I want it done. Just like my decision of an android tablet over the ipad. The ipad had several total fail items such as no camera and "locked" memory capacity. Those items just didn't work for me so I spoke with my $$ just as everyone else will. So I just say happy shopping!!

Haha... that's hilarious... but oh so true. I would totally do the same thing.

Anyways, Android is on every major carrier. Any increase in iPhone owners/decrease in Android owners will be balanced out by the increase in Android owners/decrease in iPhone owners on AT&T.

Once things settle down, it will be business as usual. Obviously any release of new phone will bring up this kind of debate. When the bionic comes out, you'll get a surge of Android sales. When the iPhone 5 comes out, you'll get a surge of iPhone owners.

I don't think anyone said the iPhone would lose the #1 smartphone status. It's just that many people think the iPhone coming to Verizon spells the end of Android...which is ridiculous!

Once people realize that iPhone is attainable...and go to the store and then see it next to phones like the Bionic and Thunderbolt with their 4"+ screens, LWP's, all the customizable options that Android has...the iPhone is going to be a harder sell than people think. Then you have devices like the Droid Pro, HTC Merge, and any other phones with physical qwerty keyboards that will speak to certain people (like my wife who feels like a physical keyboard is mandatory on her phone).

The iPhone might be the #1 selling phone in the world...but it's just one phone, with one style, one screen size available, fighting against the many different Android phones...each with a different "flavor". Look at what the iPhone has been up against during it's time at AT&T so far...their lineup has been designed to make the iPhone the clear winner for someone looking for a smartphone. At Verizon...the iPhone is just another option

Look, the iPhone is a decent phone, we get it. But even I'm not that crazy to think all those ppl that helped Verizon have record sales ALL come from Android users.

Are you even taking into account the ppl that this wiil be their first ever smart phone? Verizon sells more than smart phones. What about current Blackberry users? Or was the pre order only for existing Android smartphone users...

Apple has been known to slow the supply pipeline to generate hype.
How many 'pre-orders' did they sell? 100,000? 200,000?
They have been called out for doing it before.
Apple isn't alone in this, others have created artificial shortages to generate hype as well.

So, I may be the #1 seller as far as individual devices are concerned, but all these people 'jumping ship' would be easy to spot.
I don't see it and the only article I read polled Verizon BlackBerry users.. and remember - Verizon did not have many BlackBerry users LEFT!

We will see.... this death knell to Android is an iFan's wet dream
