A new version of the extremely popular physics game Angry Birds has arrived on the Android Market today. This version will help solve many gripes of Ascend users concerning the lag during gameplay. First, there’s a new “graphics toggle” option which removes some of the background elements and other graphics to make the gameplay smoother and with less lag on phones that don’t have the latest and greatest graphics processors, like the Ascend, which doesn't even have a GPU to begin with. Other new features developer Rovio has inlcuded are 30 more levels of gameplay. These levels were already available in the iOS version of Angry Birds, but the update means that iOS and Android versions of the game are now pretty much the same.

Rovio also says the Valentines’ Day update for Angry Birds Seasons is due out on Monday. So there you go folks, the update I've told you about a couple of days ago is finally here. Do not look in the Market, you can dowload from getjar.com. Give it a try and leave you comments below. Any improvements?

Update:Sorry folks, but I just checked on the Android Market as well as the Android Web Market and it seems that this version of Angry Birds has become unavailable for the Ascend. The situation turned out to be worse than before, as now only Angry Birds Seasons is available for the Ascend. The original version which includes the graphical toggle is no longer available for the Ascend. You may download it through getjar.com

You still need to hit the Power button twice after opening the game.

Cool! I downloaded that game when I first got my phone and it wouldn't even open.

Yes I knew that. But it was generally slow in gameplay and this update was supposed to fix that. But it turned out that they completely dropped support for the Ascend. We need to get this thread deleted, as it is irrevelant since this version of Angry Birds is not available for the Ascend anymorr

Are you sure they've specifically dropped ascend support? Whether or not it appears in your market has always seemed to be a bit hit and miss with angry birds, especially when it was in beta.

Just downloaded, installed, and tested it myself. WOW.....what a difference! You still have to go through the same ordeal in starting the game, hit Power button twice, etc, but the play speed is so much faster. It's literally like a night and day difference. And for the lite or normal versions, when you get to the screen where you press Play, press the little settings icon on the left, then press the button that looks like a mountain. This turns off the background scenery and helps with overall performance of the game.
