Android 2.4 Is Coming In April. Will the Inspire get it?

It's important to note I'm carrier neutral.

Why? I've used the big four in my area for years because I'm a mobile communications & computing tech. There is very little difference in them. They each have strong signal areas & weak ones. They all talk to each other bordering on collusion.

The bottom line is the same. Mobile phones & service in the US, will always be a big expense to the customer.

AT&T did not ignore Android, they were threatened by the very powerful & influential Apple. Told to focus on the iPhone "or else" is truer than you may care to believe. That's why the very moment, the iPhone went to Verizon, AT&T not only made headlines about the twelve Androids they're adding, but decided to eat some of it's profit so they could offer the HTC Inspire 4G at a very low $99.00.

These carriers will do anything to steal customers from each other, since the statistics show cell phone saturation, and a distinctively low number of new subscribers each month.

Currently it's quite fashionable to bash AT&T. However the actual reason there's been no option to upgrade a Captivate & it's siblings from the carriers is because Samsung wants each carrier to pay for Froyo 2.2, and they have all told Samsung no.

rumors rumors rumors!!!

however, i can see google doing this....the tegra processor wont be utilized completely until they update android to do so.
right now froyo doesnt support it, neither does gingerbread. Only honeycomb does. so basically, the inspire isnt beat yet! and wont be for a while ;)

Except in benchmarks.

I have said the SAME thing in probably 10 diffent threads already and people just seem to ignore it..pause and say "but atrix is still faster"

I wonder if i am talking over their heads or something....

So if the only difference between 2.4 and 2.3 is multi-thread optimization...its safe to say we can ignore it/dont need it at all.

What will happen at that point is the dual core phones benchmark scores will sky rocket and they will see an even more fluid experience while the inspire experience will stay as fluid as it is right now (which is still way faster than most phones).

i see that as a win/win for everyone (single core and dual core owners)....

Now....when an OS comes out that completely slows down a single core phone to the point that you dont want to upgrade..then we have an issue on single core phones.

My guess is by the time that happens, we will be mid way through 2012 and most of us will be looking at our next upgrade ANYWAY.

By the way, i have LONG SINCE suspected some kind of back door throttling on AT&Ts part for cell phone bandwith during peak hours......but not on lap top cards..

Something i cant prove so i have kept my mouth shut about it...

But some of these threads have changed my mind about keeping mouth shut....i think they throtle your phones bandwith back during peak hours and in certain locations some how.

you also need to factor what you do with your phone. If you're not gaming... 1ghz original snapdragon on froyo is plenty. quite frankly, more ram would be more valuable to me than ghz. i'm unsure about the tax that video recording/streaming takes on your cpu.

Huge drain!

Currently the .40nm tegra two does those more efficiently..but how many hours of the day are you doing just those two things. The inspire has over 100more hours of stand by "idle" time than the Atrix.

Once 2.4 comes out multi-threae optimized....EVERYTHING on the atrix will use more power...streaming, video, gaming, idle....it will suck hard on the battery running multi-threaded apps and software....well i shouldnt say the atrix....any multi-core phone. Its entirely possible Motorola never even updates the atrix to 2.4...which would just be INSANE and drive people CRAZY..but entirely possible.

from what i heard and read,

the tegra handles "some" tasks better, but uses WAAYYYYYY more battery in standby mode. I cant remember where i saw the chart, but the Inspire with its tiny battery had more standby time than the atrix

Yea.

Atrix stand by time : 250 hours
Inspire stand by time: 372 hours.

Thats 33% longer battery life for every minute your inspire sits in your pocket on your desk etc........

Basically your "stand by" time through out the day will largely EQUALIZE out with the "talk time" of the atrix being 3 hours longer....

End of the day....both batteries should last about the same amount of time for the average user.....

For CONSTANT users..the atrix will be longer.

For OCCASSIONALY USERS....the inspire will actually LAST LONGER than the atrix...

SUPRISE!
