It's important to note I'm carrier neutral.
Why? I've used the big four in my area for years because I'm a mobile communications & computing tech. There is very little difference in them. They each have strong signal areas & weak ones. They all talk to each other bordering on collusion.
The bottom line is the same. Mobile phones & service in the US, will always be a big expense to the customer.
AT&T did not ignore Android, they were threatened by the very powerful & influential Apple. Told to focus on the iPhone "or else" is truer than you may care to believe. That's why the very moment, the iPhone went to Verizon, AT&T not only made headlines about the twelve Androids they're adding, but decided to eat some of it's profit so they could offer the HTC Inspire 4G at a very low $99.00.
These carriers will do anything to steal customers from each other, since the statistics show cell phone saturation, and a distinctively low number of new subscribers each month.
Currently it's quite fashionable to bash AT&T. However the actual reason there's been no option to upgrade a Captivate & it's siblings from the carriers is because Samsung wants each carrier to pay for Froyo 2.2, and they have all told Samsung no.
