So... Can someone explain this resolution and pixel business to me?

This skattertech chart shows that the Bionic is 256 ppi and the iPhone4 is 330 ppi. This means that the iphone4 has a sharper image, right? How come they are calling the Bionic display a qHD display? Is it just some kind of marketing thing?

Interesting lil chart there. To answer your question, I do believe you're correct in the iPhone 4 being a sharper screen. I guess that's the whole "retina" display. It's the same amount of vertical pixels, 100 more horizontal, and doing it on a much smaller screen. I don't know how much diff there is if you were looking at them side by side.

There's a point of diminishing return on resolution. Whether the Bionic, T-Bolt, or iPhone 4 have hit that point is up to debate and the individual user's eyesight. I compared my OG Droid and my buddy's iPhone 4 and couldn't really see much difference in resolution and clarity, and I have really good vision.

The Bionic screen is MUCH larger so the same number of pixels will lead to fewer pixels per inch. It is called qHD because the resolution is 1/4 of 1080p

While I am a fan of hi-res displays, such as 22" 1900x1200 monitors, why bother having resolution as high as the Retina Display on a 3.5" screen? It's just overkill in terms of the amount of pixels. The Bionic's PPI is fine, as is the ThunderBolt's.

Exactly. I'm sure a 1080p screen on a 3.5" screen would still be pretty much indistinguishable from the iPhones Retina display. Now if they stretched the same resolutions across a larger screen, then the higher resolution would start looking better as the screen got bigger. But at that small of a display, I think it's a bit overkill (and mostly used for marketing hype).
