I registered and downloaded the Swype beta on the U8150 and tried to install but it said something about the screen size not being big enough and it wouldn't install. Shame.
Swype does not officially support this resolution (QVGA) in their beta - they appear to work mostly through the carriers/manufacturers to support swype.
The tmobile comet (which is the u8150) comes with swype, though, and I have read in other forums that people have swype running on this phone.

Again, I think the swype developers are trying to keep some control over swype so it doesn't look like crap, as it integrates so closely into using the phone.
All the applications that use text input of any kind should support swype (or, rather, swype should support them). You need to set your text input method to swype before it works if you added swype to the phone after you got it. This is what I have to do with my Nexus One. On my Comet, swype is pre-installed and set as the default.
