Help Help On QuickSettings App

Hi all,

Please help me to figure out what did I do wrong. I dl "quicksettings (green w/gear icon)" and customize it to the visiable setting but on the right side of the wifi hotspot there is no "on/off" button but 4 little grey hoz. bars. I can't get it to work. Can anyone help since I got this Optimus for the hotspot purpose?

You bought the Optimus solely for the purpose of tethering? You do realize that this is not part of your VM plan don't you?

I'm not sure...most users are reporting success...for my phone it's just a matter of enabling the hotspot, it changes to green, and a hotspot icon appears in the tray up top. There are videos on YouTube about this you may find helpful.

I have had no problems either, try unistalling it then installing it again.Also to the guy who said tethering is not part of your plan, who cares, it works

I'm not sure if this is needed or not, but I also installed hotspot widget in addition to quick settings and my wifi hotspot works...

I think you are in the quick setting customizations. You need to drag it to the top then go back and you will have it available.

OK...thanks for the clarification! I originally tried the hotspot widget, but it didn't seem to work at first. tried quick settings and all was good! I'll just remove hotspot widget then.

Thanks for all of the advices/comments. It works after I uninstalled and re-installed .

But I found out the battery drained so fast . Need to read more since I heard that the "airplane mode" would help. Any other advices?

The biggest battery drainer appears to be 3G when it's hunting for data...Quick Settings allows you to shut off 3G Data at the bottommost toggle. Live Wallpaper can be another one, as well as WiFi. There are a number of threads now on what people are doing to stretch battery life. I am using a program called Juice Defender that seems to help at idle, as well.

This worked for me.

Don't really need to install the app to fix the problem, just do the following:

"To fix the issue, dial *#*#4636#*#* and it will load the testing screen. You do not have to press call. Select phone information. The fix is to press Menu and then "Select radio band". The process will then force close. Go back to Phone info and select "CDMA only" and then select "CDMA auto (PRL)"

How do I get to the Hidden Settings!?!? I have watched UTube for stuff but nobody explains how to get there. It's only the bottommost by default. The order of the various settings toggles can be customized by clicking on "customize" in the menu of the app, and by dragging the controls up and down, according to how much (or how little) you use each control.

AT&T is sending their customers a notice to stop tethering or pay extra money to continue. They are able to detect when people tether. Virgin may be next. If people abuse it, it is sure to get cut off.

Well if you check the Optimus S thread they are all talking about an update Sprint just released that closes off the Quicksettings app that allows you to enable hotspot, Virgin mobile customers are sure to be next.

AT&T is greedy as hell. What you expect from them?

As far as tethering, they CAN NOT tell you're tethering. they can assume you are based off your data usage habits (which could throw up red flags).

they sent out ALOT of letters to folks accusing them of tethering, when the people actually claimed they didn't even know what tethering was... (no way to validate that though).

But if you're pushing alot of data into a mobile phone, they can use analytics to determine that, if it doesn't fit the norm, the look at it.

But to FORCE folks into a $45 plan that actually "supports" tethering is just WRONG WRONG WRONG! Greedy bastards! LOL

On another note. Sprint pushed out a firmware update that DISABLES tethering on the Optimus S (even with quicksettings).

Probably a matter of time before it happens with Optimus V

You know it a way I can't blame the phone company for doing that if you have people taking advantage by downloading and streaming tons of movies, at the same time they shouldn't call it unlimited data usage, they should let you now right off the bat it is 5GB cap or whatever the number is. 5GB is a a lot, and if you are using your phone to connect to your laptop on the go to do light web surfing and email or the occasional youtube video that should be plenty with lots to spare. But people get greedy just as much as the phone companies and try to take advantage and it ruins it for everyone else. On the bright side you can use a program called Tether which I used on my blackberry which connects either by usb or bluetooth. It works great and if you are not getting carried away downloading gigs and gigs of data you should be fine. And if people are using the data connection from their phones for all this downloading, why, it would be much faster on a dsl or cable connection anyways.

As far as tethering, they CAN NOT tell you're tethering.

Sure they can. Go visit Whats My User Agent? and What's My Screen Resolution?, first with your phone and then again with whatever devices are tethered to that same phone. Notice any difference?

And there are many more little pieces of evidence your devices leave behind when they explore the big bad Internet through VMU's servers. Don't even pretend that you are faking all these different parameters so perfectly that your laptop or whatever looks exactly like an LGOV. Even if this could be done with any reasonable effort, your Internet experience wouldn't be very rich. E.g., despite its big display, your laptop would only be served mobile versions of many websites; you couldn't use any browser plugins (because your LGOV doesn't have those); you couldn't use flash, etc., etc., etc.

What grinds me though is tethering, text, web, voice, email is all digital transmission. All ones and zeros. No difference. The providers create all these convoluted plans to milk customers as best they can. What the providers should be doing is investing in infrastructure so caps and throttling are not necessary. Don't think they don't have the money. It's shareholders come first. Additionally, does anyone here believe that there will not be a time when all entertainment including TV video will be delivered this way? I don't begrudge people who tether or use online video. Yes it might hurt a little for some of us but it's just growing pains. The ISP's need to get with it. The winner will be the one that says "Here's your connection; do what you want with it."

When talking wireless transmission through a cell network it's all about obtaining frequencies to broadcast on,you can upgrade your infrastructure and spend billions, but if the fCC (USA) do not make them available to handle the load providers are at a stand still when adding new customers.we all thought by now every tv network would be broadcasting in digital but that is not the case,if so we may not have to deal with these data issues.
