Root MyBackup Pro VS. Titanium for rooters

before I rooted, I had been a long time user of MyBackup Pro. Already paid for it. Well, then I read for rooting you really "need" Titanium and so I got it - free version - and it did save my arse. Well, I have since come to find that there are special options opened up in MyBackup Pro when you root. Options that seem pretty similar to Titanium.

So, the question is, anyone used both in root? Do I really need to also buy Titanium - for the faster batch abilities - since I already have a paid for license of MyBackup Pro?

I don't know what the differences are actually. I didn't realize that MBP took advantage of root access if you had it.

Personally I love TiBu paid, for the automatic installs, does MBP allow you to install all your apps at once without having to manaually hit "install" for each app? TiBu Paid lets you hit "restore all" then just put your phone down and walk away.

Also I would check that MBP restores not only your app DATA (only possible with root) but also the link to the market (so the market recognizes that you have "downloaded" the app)

Other then that it seems like they are more or less similar, I never knew...

I bought both paid versions. The capabilities overlap a bit, but they do different things for me. I find them both to be indispensable.

well, can you expand on that a bit? as I see it, they do nearly the same things.

2 of the functions opened with MBP when you root is the ability to save the app + data like Titanium and market links (so it says and I have no reason to not believe it). + you can schedule (of course) but that can include apk's & data and all system apps as well.

MBP allows for 1 click restore like "paid" version of Tit so it claims. MBP also allows for mutliple backup which is no dice unless you buy Tit.

MBP claims, if rooted, "MyBackup backs up more data than anyone else on Android."

thinking I had to have Tit it is all I have used under root, but then when I started researching my MBP, it seems to also have same types of features so unless someone can point out an issue, if you have MBP paid for already, I am not sure I see the need to also pay for Tit.

This is absolutely true for me as well. I use both to backup and restore when I move to a new ROM for the first time. I depend more on MyBackupPro if I'm returning to a previous rom... mainly to transfer my latest text messages and system settings without having to mess with *everything*. MBP seems to be easier to work with for simpler backup/restoration tasks.

Also, TB does not seem to be as thorough or reliable as it once was when I first began using it; therefore, when I do use it, I always use MBP alongside it to fill in any gaps.

By the way, congratulations on your new official root! I'm very happy for you, and I'm sure you will love your Droid even more. I love it when people do this! :D

still a little gun shy, but already starting to itch for a 2.2 ROM + kernal so I can over clock, considering some of the Chevy's options. my heart just can't take another POW like I had the other day. that was enough stress for a month in 12 hours. :)

I just finished reading that thread, and I'm right there with ya buddy! I will say that there are many great Froyo ROMS out there... I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Pete, Chevy, Koush, JRummy - I stick with mainly these 4, and at times can't decide which I love the most. I want to try Sapphire, but I've not been able to install it on my Droid for some reason.

I use both as well but have always found MyBackup Pro to be more reliable for how I use it, which is mainly to restore call logs, sms, mms, bookmarks, non market apks and app data. I don't bother with trying to save settings since neither Titanium or MyBackup does a good job consistently. The one area where I truly find Titanium as a good app to have is on the very rare occasion when busy box is not installed properly.

Hey while were are more or less on the subject does anyone know what specific Package that TiBu backs up contains my SMS database? I keep going for the restore all system data but honestly all I want is the SMS and wifi locations (that one I know)

For SMS data, look for an item in green font that says [SMS/MMS PREFS] and [SMS/MMS/APN]. You'll need to reboot to see the restored messages. For WiFi setting, again you're looking for an item in green font that says Wi-Fi Access Points.

we are about to find out how well MBP works after a ROM install and wipe data/cache.... as I am trying it right now :)

I made a backup prior to loading up BB 0.4, I redownloaded MBP, went to restore, selected all apps and when the time came, it gave me the option to do all apps, data, or apps + data and I did the later. it is now working in batch mode

so I did Restore, batch, apps + data and reboot and on quick look, apps seem there
then, I do Restore Data, batch all.. doing that now... will report back

calendar restore, I have a BIG calendar that was imported from years of Palm data, is VERY slow to restore under MBP. that was faster under Tit

first, my calendar local on my computer has never sync'd with google gMail. long story, but the theory out there - as I am not the only one - is that the 10 years of data that came from my Palm is just to much to sync so I keep my local phone calendar more up to date than my google calendar. don't ask, it is what it is.. if you find the fix MANY of us out here would love to have it. THAT is why I must backup and restore calendar data.

as a guy now that has used both apps for after a wipe, I have to say I can see value of both sadly. Tit did calendar 100x faster and yet I already have full batch mode paid for in MBP. so, I will likely not pay for Tit, keep the free, but glad I have both and will use both.

Just saw that, trying it now. One thing I'd like to see that I haven't noticed is the ability to restore to where the APK was when it was saved. For instance I have a lot of apps on my SD card because of the low internal storage on the Droid. TiBu will allow me to restore my apps that I have moved to the SD card back to the SD card, if I don't do this I run into out of storage errors when restoring.

Not sure what would have to be done to implement that, but so far that is my only complaint. Solid app all around.

In the discussion of MBP vs. TiBu, I give this post a +1.
