Root Splash Image?

Okay so I am thinking of flashing a splash image but I have a question first. If I flash one can I go back to the stock one if I ever need to bring my phone in for something. Also will it stay the same when I flash ROMs or will it change back to stock every ROM flash?

Yes you can go back to the original image. I have the .zip but not sure where I got it from. And it stays the same from my experience when you flash Roms as the only thing they might change is the boot animation. I have the Unrevoked one on mine and had to revert back to the stock one for some warranty work a while back.

While the above will certainly help if you want to go back to the original splash screen without unrooting, if you flash a PC36IMG.zip with the contents of a RUU (or just run a RUU), it will include the stock splash screen. Basically, if you unroot, you don't need to fix the splash screen in addition to that. Also, you are correct in that the splash screen will not change when you flash ROMs. It's lower than that.

That's actually the same one from the Evio post, and is specifically designed to be flashed from recovery. Most of the time, these are flashed from hboot as a PC36IMG.zip, but calkulin found a way to package it as an update script for recovery. You can always tell if it's a package meant to be a PC36IMG.zip or a recovery update script. Just open the zip. If it has a directory with the following structure, it's meant for recovery - META-INF/com/google/android. In that directory will be either an update-script (amend) or and updater-script and an update binary (edify). If it's a PC36IMG.zip file, it will have an img file (thought splash screens are sometimes nb0) along with an android-info.txt file. Note that a PC36IMG.zip can still have the META-INF folder, but only if it's been signed. It will just have the certs in that directory, not the com/google/android directory structure.

If you bring your phone in for service, you *should* just unroot. If you unroot, it will bring your splash image back to stock. If you change the splash image, then flash this, it will bring your splash image back to stock, only. It's not going to do anything to unroot your phone. All I'm saying is, they can tell you have root by many different things - S-OFF, custom recovery, rooted ROM, custom boot animation, etc. Just changing the splash image back to stock isn't all the helpful. Just unroot, and you won't have to worry about this. That being said, this is more useful for when you might want to go back to the stock splash screen just because you're tired of a custom one, but want to keep everything else the same (stay rooted).

Oh okay I understand what you said now and I know they can tell you rooted in many different ways, I just didn't want to go unroot and undo everything I already did but still have a custom splash screen.

Got it . Yeah, if you unroot, you will not have a custom splash screen still.

How'd it go? Did it revert to stock splash screen when unrooting? I'm having the same concern at the moment.

yes when you unroot your splash screen and bootanimation will switch to stock. did it a few months ago and EVERYTHING was back to stock.
