Root How to customize

Sorry if this is a reposted thread. I just joined and have looked thru a little bit. I currently have the HTC Droid Eris and im looking to customize it.

It is not rooted, and I would prefer not to root it, it's still under manufactures warranty and I want to make sure I can keep it that way.

I want to change the clock -- to something that isn't an option under the settings, change the whole system font -- the font I want has already been downloaded to the phone I just don't know what file folder to place it in and where I would select it at.

Really i'm just looking for a way to change the look and apperance of the phone without screwing it up to much. I know computers well, I just haven't spent the time learning the inside and out of my cellphone.

Is it possible to customize it without rooting it?

If you don't want to root, the best way to customize the look of your phone is to install a home replacement. I like LauncherPro a lot, and it is easy to customize. There is also ADW Launcher which has some themes you can download and apply, and Go Launcher which is also highly customizable. There are probably others, but those are the ones I have tried.

For a different clock, look in the market and just search "clock" or "clock widget" and you'll find many options (I suggest simiclock if you're looking for something minimalist and I also liked Go Weather's clock/weather widget when I tried it out).

You could also check out Desktop VisualizeR which will allow you to customize the non-dockbar icons on your home screens.

You can also theme a custom keyboard at this website. Just use the low res kitchen.

I don't have an answer for your question about the font. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Also, if you do decide to switch to a home replacement, make sure you delete everything off the home screens of the Sense launcher so all the widgets and stuff don't use up all your battery.

i am new to this forum thing and really dont know how to "find a thread" for the topic im interested in....atleast not yet. So Im just gonna put my inqueries out there and hope someones listening...('reading' lol). I really want to make my evo...MY evo. i have the HTC Evo 4g and have had it since the first day it came out in white. Im tired of the same old look as far as the homescreen...widgets...clocks...wallpaper....lock screen...everything. Its really BLAH and bland. I DO NOT want to root my phone. Its much too technical and detailed and Im the type of person that must know it all when I get into something so that I can take full advantage (and so I dont screw something up). I dont have the time or patience to deal with the details of rooting. Is there anyway to really make this phone spiffy?? i have played with widgets, wallpapers, apps, all that...it all looks the same to me. I went to freeandroidthemes.net THATS what i want!! Those themes are hot!!...and pleasantly different!! They arent just some picture slapped on a screen with some widgets rearranged, ya know?! Everything looks custom....from the widgets to the lock screen to the app menu...EVERYTHING. But i just feel like those themes are for rooted phones (just by the language used on the website). Where can I get themes similar?

heres how i do it: navigate to the correct forum(in your case evo 4g ;) )
then i read the topics of the first few threads. when i have read all the topic that fit onscreen i use the scroll roller on my mousie to scroll down and read more. when i get to the bottom ill click the next consecutive page number. when the next page loads ill repeat that process. :D ill skim thru a few pages. it never fails that i find other interesting topics that werent even questions i had at the moment.

failing that, there is a "search this forum" tool at the top right. its a blue bar, next to the green bar with the forum name. you can use it to search for only threads in the forum youre in so you wont accidentally read ones for a different phone. try "customize homescreens","cuctomize appearance" or other things to that effect.

nothing wrong with asking questions, but a search will often turn up good answers without having to wait for replies. also you may miss out on good info that a search can turn up if you simply post a question.
