Would you downsize your screen size?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate (Telus version) and I've seen some nice looking 3.5" Android phones come out, but I don't know if I'm willing to part with the screen real estate of my Galaxy S. One phone that has me even thinking about downsizing is the Huawei U8230. It's pretty sexy. The only thing I don't like about my Galaxy S is the plastic/cheap feel of it. It's not that bad, but I do hope that the Galaxy S2 addresses this issue, though I'm not too hopeful.

So, is the screen size a deal breaker for most people, or is it just one feature among many that helps you decide on a phone?

It is one of the factors I consider, but I really feel 4.0 inches is the perfect size. I don't think I will ever go smaller again unless the other features are just super awesome. My previous phone was the Droid X with a 4.3 inch screen and while I loved the screen, I felt the phone was just slightly too big. I would also never go bigger than 4.3 because at that point I might as well carry around a tablet.

I was one of the few people in USA who officially got HD2 months before it came out on TMoUS the Leo1024 so ya I had the biggest screen 4.3" and people were like OMG what is that lol I been using it for year now till it was stolen last month... as I am dev I had my own tweaks which optimized the performance and my own custom theme ect. So only device I could find with decent hardware was MT4G and the biggest thing I regret it now is for the screen. So ya I guess size does matter LOL in this case that is as 4.3" was the magic number.

when I went from a 2.9" 16:9 360x640 screened phone to a 3.5" 16:10 480x800 I was a bit worried
Now i am back to the 2.9" and its awful
That said, if i go for bigger than 3.7" 16:10 I want qHD - I hate low DPI

haha. I know what you mean. There are a couple 4.3" phones, like the HTC HD2 and the HTC HD7, that are pretty damn nice, but I just can't help feeling like it would be too much. Like you said: You're starting to get into the tablet world with a phone that size. heh.

My current HTC Hero is 3.2" 320x480, and I don't think I'd ever go for the same size or smaller again.

I'm looking at something in the 4.3" range now...

The 3.8" on my MT4G is pretty nice, but not having a physical keyboard I think i'll enjoy a 4.3"

Planning on getting the HTC Pyramid when my contraxt is ready for upgrading. Only thing that turns me off about it is the touch sensitive buttons. I like physical buttons.

I have a droid X and the 4.3" is waaaay nice. I had an htc incredible before and much prefer the larger screen real estate. In fact, I am hoping some nice 4.5" phones come out soon as I think that is the ideal size of screen for my personal uses.

I'm not even sure how big mine is, 3inch I think. But I like it, I used my friends phone before which was 4.3 and since im short and thin it felt like I was holding my own body in my hand lol. So I would stick to less than 4.

You never know until you try it, that's for sure. Lots of people like the 4.3" screen, while others prefer the 4" and still others the (approximately) 3.5~3.8" models - it's just personal preference.

I _really_ like to get free books from Project Gutenberg and read them via Aldiko on my 4.3" model - the text settings I use put the fonts at the same size as that found on paperback books when I place my phone on top of the book itself - so - pretty handy for me.

Then there's there's the new Palm HP WebOS Veer with a 3.25" phone. It's just a wee little thing, laddy. lol

I guess WebOS is actually a pretty nice OS, if just a little underpowered. It will be interesting to watch and see how HP does with the Palm brand.

Yeah, I can't argue with you there. You've probably heard about the possible Microsoft/Nokia merger? If that happens Symbian will be gone and Nokia will be making hardware for Windows Phone 7.

I got the Motorola E815 cuz it had a bigger screen than most phones.

I chose the Omnia 1 cuz at the time it had a big screen for a touch screen only phone. I figured the bigger the screen the better.

I chose the Droid 1 cuz it had a bigger screen than the Omnia 1 and a physical keyboard.

I got the X not knowing if I would like a bigger screen like that. Now....I dont want anything smaller than 4". And I might try 4.5"...but that might be the max I try...

Looks like the screen size has always been a deal breaker for me. I didnt realize it until I saw this thread and made this post...lol

I have an Evo currently (4.3") and really like the size. It makes everything nicer as far as performing tasks from typing to browsing. I personally would want an even bigger device. Anything from 4.5 to 5.0 would be fine for my next Android. But I would not go below 4.3" at this point unless I decide to pick up a Tablet.

Well, I tried out a new MyTouch 4g & decided to stick with my trusty MyTouch 3g instead. I just like the feel of it better. The bigger phone was... a bigger phone. Great at times, not so great at other times. Bigger isn't always better

I love the feel of my old phone, as it fits my hand perfectly. Plus I love the non-slick surface (soft-touch) on the old phone's back. The new phone was somewhat awkward plus super slippery. Yes, I know I could put a skin on it, but then it didn't fit in the belt case without pressing against the power button.

Yes the older phone is slower, but not that bad actually if you keep nuking the open apps with a task killer.

So, at least for now, I'm (happily) sticking with my old phone. Besides, tons of new stuff coming out this summer. Maybe I will try something new again then.
