Hey all, since I use the browser a fair amount I have picked up a few small things that I like and wanted to share some simple tips. Please feel free to mention any I leave out.

1) Double tapping the screen opens the tab menu.

When you have the tab menu open and long press a tab it will give you a menu to

Close Tab
Close Others
Close all

2) You can swipe between tabs, and your currently selected tab is colored orange-ish in the thin bar at the top of the screen.

Keep an eye as to how many tabs are open here. If you have too many open it will slow the browser down significantly.

3) Gestures can be helpful but make sure and re-record them as ones you will remember!

Mine are:

> forward
< back
h History
b bookmarks
B add a bookmark
V downloads
^ go

/ \
| | home (sort-of looks like a home)

4) You can change the user agent string in the settings

User agent string explained:

The user agent string is what you browser identifies itself as to a website. When connecting to a site, the browser says "hey, I'm an Android phone, send me some content -- and make it snappy!" And then the website will respond with HTML and images and whatnot. However, since the website knows Android is a mobile browser, it can send back content that is specifically tailored for the phone. This is usually a good thing. Rarely though, some websites will refuse to work, or will just not work as well depending on what the browser is identifying itself as. This is like asking Firefox to pretend it's IE so that if a website was coded only to work for IE, you could still view it in Firefox.

5) You can sync your Google or delicious bookmarks

For those that don't know Delicious is a social bookmarking site. You can share your bookmarks with others based on categories.

6) You can download Youtube videos in Android's native mp4 (h263?) format.

When you click on a video on Youtube Dolphin will give you the option of saving the video for watching later or opening it immediately in the Youtube app.

7) You can set the browser to "auto-fit" pages

This is more of an auto-fit for blocks of text. Play around with it some to get an idea what it does.

The Dolphin Browser now sucks. The last update messed up the pinch zoom and auto-resize. Now, this update adds adware to the browser. What is this 1997 and Netzero?? The developer should just sell it for a buck or two.. get rid of the ads and fix the pinch zoom. Sadly, I had to uninstall it and use the default browser, which is actually faster anyway..

R.I.P. Dolphin Browser... :(

I'm not sure if this has happened to anybody else but here is my experience with the Dolphin Browser.

My mother called me last night complaining about her phone (she has a Droid). She said it was calling people, pulling up Google Maps, opening the Browser, sending text messages and when she went to the lock screen the unlock button and the emergency call button were sliding back and forth. I thought she was crazy so I had her pull the battery and leave it overnight. I came over this morning and put the battery back in and rebooted the phone, the same things started happening to me. So i took it over to Verizon and the lady there told me it was because of the Dolphin Browser and that its all porn. I was confused but she replaced the phone for me and that was that.

Has anybody else had these types of issues??

Thanks!

4) You can change the user agent string in the settings
-What does this do?
5) You can sync your google or delicious bookmarks
Can someone explain what delicious is/does?

-Anyway to get rid of the damn adware crap? That really peeves the hell outta me. I'll gladly buy the damned app, but I want that choice!

I've been running Dolphin for weeks now w/zero issues...more likely she accidentally hit a bad web site than the Dolphin browser did this - too many people using it, and I've never seen a post w/anything like what you refer to...

Delicious is a social bookmark website. Like Xmarks/Google bookmarks/stumble upon etc.

You can share what pages you have bookmarked with other based on topic. I dont use it personally but some people like it.

I love the google bookmark sync in dolphin browser though

What I would like to know is where to go to request a feature for this great browser. What I'd like is an option to open any site launched from a bookmark in a new tab/window rather than using the current window. This would actually be a nice feature in general Android settings. Maybe it is for versions greater than 1.5. I use a Firefox plugin called Tab Mix Plus that does this on my laptop. Anyone know where the feature request site is for Dolphin?
