Changing devices

I have never changed devices with Verizon.
With T-Mobile and AT&T yes - just swap the sim card and move on.

I really really like the Thunderbolt.
If I buy the Thunderbolt at retail... what do I have to do in order to switch from my Droid X?
Is it just a matter of buying it and they throw the switch on their end and my X becomes a paperweight?

Any guidance on changing devices on Verizon anyplace?

you can log in at www.vzw.com and do it there, or turn the X off, and dial *228 on the TB and press option 3. follow the prompts for entering you phone number, account password, etc and it will program OTA.

Yeah, it's nice that you can program a phone OTA now. Otherwise, you can do it through My Verizon as well. All you need is the ESN/MEID. As long as it's clean and Verizon supported, it'll program.

Are you eligible to upgrade, or will you be buying it full retail or from a 3rd party? I'm also jumping on the HTC Thunderbolt when it comes out. I was comparing it to the new Motorola 4G Droid but the HTC won my vote. It has everything the Motorola has plus its GUI enhancements and it comes out sooner rather than later.... I just wish it wasn't going to be $249.99 (At Bestbuy) which means it'll probably be $299 at Verizon.

I was told a few days ago I could program OTA with *228 on my wife's Continuum. You go with Option 1, and it does ask you for the mobile number to program to and the last four of the primary account holder's social. Granted it didn't work for me, but it didn't work online either. Special circumstance due to how we re-enabled our old phone on the line until we could set it up that evening, but the service is available nonetheless.

Still need an hardware MEID for CDMA service. Highly doubt that will ever change. No idea how dual mode LTE/CDMA devices will handle the network identification, but I'm guessing similar to the current Verizon world phones. What happens if I put an AT&T LTE SIM card into an unlocked Verizon LTE/CDMA phone? No 3G/2G service. It'll be a decade before we see any true carrier agnostic phones in the US.

do you guys think wirefly.com will have the thunderbolt fairly soon after release? an will it be cheap like all of the other phones on there?
