When will Sprint come out with another 4G phone?

The EVO Shift is full of fail. It's pretty much a dumbed down EVO (slower processor and no FFC) with a keyboard. The Echo seems cool, but lack of 4G means I'll have to pass on it.

I really want to see something new come out with new features to rival things like the AT&T Atrix.

the blackberry play book the hp touch tab and the galaxy tab 10incher all suppose to be 4g.. phone wise well... rumored blackberry coming and the sucessors to the evo and epic. (doubt they wil lbe evo and epic 2 since sprint doesnt like the number 2 for some reason unless its a touch pro 2)

Lol the shift is faster than both the evo and the epic... do your research man.

I wouldn't expect a new top-flight 4G phone to replace the Evo and Epic until summer at the earliest, or Q4 at the latest.

I think some people need to get it through their noggin that Sprint has no incentive to cut the Evo's life cycle short. That would be a terrible business decision. The Evo has not been out long, and continues to be Sprint's best selling phone.

There was big leap in terms of performance and features between the Hero/Moment, and the Epic/Evo. The differences between the Evo/Epic and Atrix/Optimus is much smaller when speaking about features and user experience because the limitation is not hardware at this point. Android is the limitation.

Sprint has another 4 months to really add the features many want to provide a big jump over the Evo, make Gingerbread standard, and improve 4G market penetration. Hell, maybe even score a Wimax iPhone.

I would expect the first news about the Evo replacement in March or April

It still lacks a FFC, so I had to pass on it. And the EPIC has a graphics processor that slays the EVO and the Shift!

Lol a super duper GPU on a phone isn't really the most important thing on the phone. As for the FFC, well, honestly i've only used it once or twice. And yes, I know people with FFC's, we tested video chat, thought it was cooll and all, but not really something any of use want to use in day to day communications.

So FFC, is kind of meh to most people. (As of right now.)

Secondly, I don't need my phone to play Crysis or anything like that. This is exactly why I prefer my Evo over my Epic on day to day use.

FFC's do not have the "infrastructure" or market presence needed to be a deal breaker for me. Most of my friends have an iPhone, and never once have I seen one use video chat, because it's far easier to text, or dial a number and get off the phone quick. Give it another year or so, and FFC might become a valuable must have feature

As for GPU...this is silliest thing to be concerned about. Why do you need a super duper GPU? To run angry birds? The app selection on Android is so awful.

I can see mandating a fast GPU on iOS, because they actually have a serious catalog of games that would benefit from the horsepower.

Maybe things will change, but I doubt it. Guess we will see at E3, but until Android sells less junk phones, and gets more consistent in terms of QC and baseline specs, I don't expect developers to waste their time.

Nvidia could help progress things by becoming the certification standard baseline for game makers.

You do realize that Android phones are not limited to the apps on the Market, right?

You guys reallize that the GPU in our phones is used for more than just gaming right? Its what makes the phone render animations on daily usage more smoothly. It also makes scrolling, panning, pinching and zooming smoother. It is helpful for video playback as well. Don't under rate powerful gpu's cause I'm loving what I'm seeing in terms of smoothness on my phone.

It's not a GPU problem, it's an android problem. Android OS for some sick reason requires a super computer CPU and GPU and flow as smoothly as a Palm Pixi...

Not sure what you mean cause I've never used a palm pixie. All I know is my phone runs very smooth and had great fps with graphics of all kinds thanks to the super cpu and gpu in it (which is nearly identical to the iphone 4 mind you)

I have to give props to Samsung with the Epic. It runs Android better than any phone I have played with. Not quite like iOS or WebOS, but certainly better than every other phone on Sprint.

This is the main reason why I am considering the GalaxyS 2 for my next phone. Since it has Gingerbread, it should be a screamer. Generally speaking, Android always seem to run in a choppy fashion.

I had a Palm Pixi and loved it. Is now being used by another family member and he (yes, he) is happy with it as well. It is a small device, which is one of the reasons I liked it. Sometimes I even forgot I had it in my pocket :)

Quite the contrary. The Galaxy line overall just really impresses when it comes to user experience.

Overall, the Evo is the better phone, but the Epic makes Android feel on par with iOS and WebOS when it comes to speed, response time and smoothness. When coupled with the S-amoled display the entire package is really slick and impressive over anything HTC and Motorola makes.

How does having a worse display, slower processor, worse GPU, and worse cameras make it a better phone?
