Which phone should I get?

At&t lied to me. I went in yesterday, and asked if I could upgrade, they looked up my account and told me I could. They then said I should wait until today to get the Inspire, so I did. And now they are telling me I can't upgrade. So At&t suck, and I want an Android. I will just cancel out my current phone and get a new contract somewhere else.

I haven't had an android before and now I really want one. I will need one for a class I am taking in the fall, as a development tool. So what phone coming out in the next couple of months would you recommend I get as a developer and under who should I get it?

I currently have the Droid 2 Global (White) with an extended battery and I love it. I was going to go with the Droid X but I thought it was going to be to big for me. Its really about preference; physical keyboard or nah? I like my physical keyboard on the d2g but thats just me. If you are going to get the d2g id get the extended battery asap cuz the original battery for the d2g blows...

Looking at the HTC Thunderbolt, but wondering if that is the right choice. The people at at&t tell me to get the Atrix, which sounds good, but I hear at&t is a pain to develop on, and since they are forcing me to cancel anyway, I don't know if I want to re-contract with them.

Thank you! I am leaning more towards the Atrix, but I heard something about AT&T locking down their phone more than anyone else. How true is this, and is there an easy work around?

Umm I'm not entirely sure. Ive always been bias toward AT&T in general because they have always had a shitty signal where I grew up but I think you have the basic jist of it. The details of if there is a way to work around it I'm not real sure about. AT&T claims they lock down their phones because 'it's in your best interest and prevents users from downloading malicious apps' but thats bs. The Atrix is considered a '4G phone' but I dont think AT&T's network will even support true 4G phones till 2012? So in my conclusion AT&T sucks so dont go that way even if it means not getting the Atrix?

I don't think Verizon has 4G in Utah either, so either way, 4G isn't really the selling point. As long as I can get connection to the internet without Wifi, all is good.

I am up for any other suggestions as well. My thoughts are not only on the Atrix or Thunderbolt. Whatever has some good development potential is what I care about the most. Power is a good thing as well of course.

So I just discovered the Bionic. Though the power behind it looks awesome, the thing that sucks is the 512MB of RAM. I mean really, WTF? That is less than the TB.

Depending on the TB price, depends on whether I get it or not. The problem is, every time a new phone comes out, a better one is announced to come out. I think I just have to choose and be happy with it.

Yeah lol hate that dont ya? I think the Bionic is a good choice that's what i would roll with (my opinion) I think the Bionic is a very good phone.. here take a look at this maybe it'll help

I know the RAM on the Bionic is actually a much faster version (DDR2) than that of the Atrix (which needs the extra 512 for its docking options, so it's really tic for tac) so I would bet that it is probably faster than the TB as well, but you'll have to look more into that as I'm not positive of it. As I understand it (Guam or EarlyMon please correct me if I'm wrong) the type of RAM the Bionic has will be faster in day to day operations than the type found in the Atrix but the Atrix needs the version and size that it has to power it's dock.

Nexus S just went by the FCC for AT&T. If you're really wanting to get into developing, why not Google's personal developer phone?

I would say no if I were in the market for a phone today I would be more than pleased with the TB. Likely, besides battery life increases, most people will never notice the difference between a 1ghz single core as advanced as the TB is carrying vs. the dual core debuting in the Bionic and Atrix. Since my upgrade isn't until June, I'm going to wait and see if 2.4 really does bring the optimizations that dual-cores will need to really fly. The TB's chip is stable at up to ~1.7-1.8ghz which is more than enough for most anyone dual core or not.
